Guys can I get a recommendation
Power commander or flash tune ecu?

gsxbarmy

DO NOT FLASH TUNE THE ECU.

BIG - and I mean BIG - MISTAKE

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!

Powercommander will set the fuelling exactly for your bike every 250 revs throughout the powerband. Flash Tune (or using a Yoshi box as some call it) is like taking a crowbar to the bike.

Power Commander and dyno (to build your custom map)  is what you need and 150% recommended.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

It is not so black and white. In these days "yoshi box " and Flash tune are not the same thing, and I dont recommendate yoshi box to anybody, even I have used it myself for years and I am still using it. Using yoshi is like adjusting carburetor by hammer. But that "custom map, made in dyno" is just the good start to adjusting work. It isnt ready during that dyno visit, not at all.
In dyno ( and mostly they are inertia dynos) you can adjust your accelerating area and maximum power quite OK, but part throttle areas must still be adjusted correctly on highway, in live circumstances, by using a wide band lambda. With data logger or not.
Using power commander is OK, because you can change the map easily AFTER the first dyno visit.

@Thommohawk  did a write up on the old org regarding the yoshi box after a chat with a renowned tuner.

What i remember from that thread ( pretty sure he will update this thread when he sees the chance )

- a yoshi box tune can be reversed despite popular believe,
- it is not the preferred tune as it is very crude in ways of adjustments,
- the adjustments are made in the low - middle and high rev range and can only add -10, - 5,  0, +5, +10% of fuel in just those three area's

Because of those limitations you will not get a perfect mixture at each % gas throttle.
The changes of getting a 100% correctly set up bike are slim but It can improve your standard Suzuki tune one some area's.

Ecu editor is better than both, forget flashing, its crude, and Yoshi boxs are, simply put, rubbish. Power commander 3's are ok but are only any good if set up on the dyno, a generic map is too vague. The Power commander 5 with the auto tune facilty has proved to be very good too, a lot of good info on the old forum regarding this.

David Nolan

Ok it's just I was onto a tuner during the week and he recommended flashing the standard ecu

He said the power commander he can only alter the fuel map, but with the flash tune he can alter the ignition and alter the secondary buttflies to take out restrictions

If he uses the Woolrich software maybe, the bike still needs to be on the dyno to check the air/fuel ratio.

David Nolan

Yep it Woolich software and yes will be on dyno

T 24

Woolich should be OK software, and dyno is needed. It is quite far from that Yoshi box from stone age.

Flippin' heck! - is it that long since I've been on here... Just too flipping busy these days...

However - as eluded to by 'Blubber' - the Woolich Tune solution allows you to fully re-flash the ECU, so the resulting tune will be as good as a decent tuner can achieve and has the ability to far exceed what can be achieved with a simple Powercommander install.

It is far superior to the Yoshi box tune that GSXBarmy mentions, which can give less than acceptable results and really is a simple tune shift, that richens or weakens the mixture at a few (3?) selected ranges.

Mine? well still not got the Yoshi cams installed (still in box) and for the first time in 10+ years, the bike is SORN'd - so will not be out till Spring at the earliest I would think.  Have done about 35 miles this past year, including the MOT..  :(

Merry Christmase to all - From chilly Latvia.
