I,m a new owner of a GSX1400 and want to know how i can trim the tail down to give it a more sporty look, would love some advice

Del

If it was me then I wouldn't cut the original down as there getting rare in unmolested state - I would gt a 2nd hand one and trim that down adding an R&G tail tidy or make something up - I did this on my bandit

but then again its not my bike

Have to say Del that you wrote what I was thinking..

She is back to standard now..

Hi Grakev, welcome to the forum.  Guys actually want original in-cut rear ends, they'll even swap a tail tidy for one.  Put something up in the for sale & wants section, you might be surprised.  Good luck.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

how things change. few months back decided to cut off rear guard. opinion was stock looked crap, get rid of it. i did. marked it up, cut it off. great decision, looks much nicer. no tail tidy needed as i just wanted shorter guard. now im reading stock is better, a almost collectors item. each to their own, i know which looks better and no side effects. my wife doesnt get splatter up her back, all good.

The problem with retirement is that you cant take a day off

When I had mine I cut it down, drilled some new holes to mount the indicators then knocked up some numberplate brackets out of some offcuts of ally and used some scraps of stainless to make some blingy bits on the indicator mounts, I thought it looked way better than the big black snowshovel it came with.

Eyup grakev,I have a stock rear mudguard that has been cut down, they are quite a large item so wouldn't really want to post it, if you can get it picked up from mine  which is near  sheffield you can have it for nixy plonk mate.

I'm with you Grog, I think the stock is too much and in my humbe opinion make the bike look a little pedestrian!

If you can Irish, find a late model GS1000S (79-80) and fit that mudguard. It is cut off higher than the Katana Mudguard in standard trim but still has a slightly beveled finish and bolts straight on.
May the sun be warm & shining and your roads be smooth & winding.
