For the knobblys, the best way is to recycle old road tyres and turn them onto off road tyres (Barmy will be familiar with this for his Trumpet, sure he was the one who explained the principal to me originally)

How it's done is to use a tyre grooving tool, just plug in & start cutting. If you're like me & can't afford a grooving tool, a hacksaw & chisel work too! Just use the hacksaw to cut the general pattern into the remaining tread area, be careful not to cut into the ply too much, a few nicks are ok, but any more than 5 & you've wrecked it basically. Then, once the basic pattern is there, take your chisel & hack out hunks of extraneous tread to reveal your 'free' off road tyre.
Same care when chiseling out the blocks, not too many more chunks out of the cord area, 3 of these little slips seem to still leave the tyre in a useable state as long as you didn't exceed the 5 hacksaw nicks.

Now that's a good question & not one with a straight forward answer either, because the answer is 'sort of'.

What you do is keep filling the crankcase up to the filler neck & when it looks like it's full to the top, it'll "burp" & a bubble of air comes out the top. That's your sign you've got the level right. Put the filler cap back on before you start it - don't want splatters coming out.
I've always found after doing the above oil change, a good handful of throttle on start up works very well to get the oil circulating everywhere. So, turn the key on wait for the fuel to prime & crank her over with a good handful of throttle, then sit back & admire your handy work.

Actually on a more serious note its not a bad idea, however, I think since this forum was established we already have most, if not all of the major questions "stickied" such that we can point new instances at them - with perhaps the exception of "which is the best oil" and "which are the best tyres" (I don't mind that one so much as new tyres come out so it's almost a refresh when it does get asked.

Perhaps rather than an FAQ we could have an FAP... Frequently Asked People...

One of the reasons I like this forum because even frequent questions from new folks are answered in a very supportive way. This here is a very nice community, appreciate you lots

I am a member and former moderator on a Land Rover forum. In fact I was a mod there for around 10 years..
We tried exactly this type of thing. A section with links to threads that cover the main topics.


It was an absolute bloody nightmare to maintain, to the extent it became impossible.
I can offer assurances that I won't personally be implementing such a thing here.


Unless there is a volunteer with a solid plan as to how they intend to do it... and with a commitment to maintain it.
I strongly advise against volunteering for any such thing !
