MOT passed....just about :)

Took the 14 for it's MOT today and managed to get a pass...sort of. There was one minor issue that I need to sort out, but the guy was kind enough to still pass it, not even an advisory :)
Typically since getting the bike back on the road again, I've had problems with hazards and this morning on the way to the test station, the headlight went, but it's all over for another year lol

Do they check chain tension for the MOT or just the condition?  :smile2:

Neither IMO.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement :lol:

ive had an advisory on chain being lose at an mot a couple of years ago .
he said it wouldn't fail unless dangerously lose .
maybe depends on tester but mine is usually very fair as ive used the same place for many years.
only a slightly modified gsx1400

Hey Seth, what's an advisory then? Like a black mark recorded against the vehicle & particular attn. is paid in this area next time? or does it mean it has to be fixed before it passes & is ok to use?
We don't have advisorys as such here, it either passes or fails because of stuff that needs to be fixed before you're allowed to use it on the road again.

I don't know if its possible to fail an MOT here.

An advisory is just a minor thing that the examiner notices that he feels your ettention needs drawing to i.e. rear tyre almost at limit or front pads getting low or side stand a little too loose.. Things like that, not fails but could be down the line. They dont have to list them or give you any but some of the more thorough testers do it..
So if i do stuff all all day and noone sees me do it.. Am i still a lazy git?

Chain tension is checked. If the chain has tight links or is badly unevenly stretched it can be failed.

No annual test here.

You only need one to register an unregistered bike,
or to sell a bike with the plates on without handing them in.

My 9 year old B-King has never had an MOT / safety cert.
My Busa had one 10 years ago when the last owner sold it to me.

The guy who does mine has a mobile service.
He comes to my home or work and writes the ticket out whilst I put the kettle on.

The best advisory I've ever had was earlier this year on my car.  I got it because their exhaust monitor didn't go low enough to measure my exhaust gasses so I got a 0 reading.  They even got another car in the check their meter to see if it had packed up but they got a reading so checked mine again, still 0.  The guy at the test station told me he had to give me an advisory because by law everyone needs to have a readout and as I got a 0 reading the computer would not print out a cert.

They don't do exhaust gas tests here, just look to see if it's smoky - blue or black, else just check the system for leaks. Smoky cars get kicked off the road till they're fixed.
