Why are MOT's such a worry guys ?
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

QUESTION - if you do not know, on any given day at any given time, that your bike will pass an MOT, or whatever the safety inspection test is where you are, should you even consider riding it until you do know????? :whatever:

Monarchjock

Kiwifruit.

You have  to pay to get whatever has failed fixed. If your MOT has run out you can't ride the bike unless taking it to get repaired or to get MOT'd

The test is to make sure the bike is safe and roadworthy.

Find out what's tested and lots of other info here.

Sounds exactly the same as our Warrant of Fitness.
There's a sliding scale now for these re-checks, used to be every 6 months regardless of vehicle age!   Now a new vehicle gets a wof for 3 years then it needs to be checked again, pass & it'll get 2 years before next test.
Vehicles newer than year 2000 get 1 yearly checks & older ones must get a check every 6 months.

You're not allowed to ride / use the vehicle without a current WoF, but lots & lots of people do. Problem with that (apart from being liable to a fine) is if the vehicle doesn't have a current WoF, then it's not covered by Insurance, even if you're paying insurance. If it doesn't have a current WoF, it's not allowed on the road & if you drive it & crash, all costs are on you!
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Thats exactly what I was thinking Tim.  :onya:

So it's just a revenue raiser?

I like the idea of a MOT/WOF inspection. Not so much for me but it does get faults fixed on vehicles driven by others on the roads we have to share.

I replied with this  -

I FORGOT TO ADD -
If it is safe to ride to the test station then it must be capable of passing the test so why would you worry?

In Western Australia Police can issue defect notices, but apart from that as long as the rego is payed no inspection is ever required. No serious problems with dangerous cars around either but I'm not saying it's same for everyone. Over East I believe if a vehicle is for sale the owner must get an inspection prior to advertising the car, but not certain on that. I hope we don't end up with on of your systems.

Like any inspection - the item is only qualified at the time of the inspection - an MOT is no different - However it is a gauge as to the maintenance of the item in question and therefore a valid means of attesting to its worthiness to do what it is supposed to.

MOT passed - no advisories - and they adjusted the chain FOC prior to the MOT

Glad you got the pass - the test is there for our benefit at the end of the day.

It is always good to get a pass and know that there are no problems that can cost you time and money.

I seem to recall mine failed last year over something that had not come to may attention whilst riding (was it a bearing of some sort.....?) but it was good to know it had been picked up for my own safety.

An MOT will only tell you that a bike was roadworthy on a specific day (or less, if you are one of those who ride straight home and refit the illegal registration pate you took off for the test!)

Although mine is done at the same dealer every year the advisories can seem to depend on which particular mechanic does the test
