sorry to bore you blokes but crash bars for bike are pretty much not available in oz, are for stupid money. rg engine sliders, a good option? also some mushrooms for fr. n rear axles. a good option also? pretty much just worried about tipping over at low speed. in the shed etc. mainly to protect those beautiful engine cases. your thoughts gentlemen , please.

Andre

Plenty of cases where crash protectors have caused more harm than good  :stir:

Would look for protectors that have break points or a damping design to minimize this.

R&G crash bungs will not save your cases, the engine sliders might if it's a low enough speed slide.  I had R&G and Puig crash bungs on my bike when I was knocked off by some dozy doris on a roundabout and still scratched the generator cover, would have been a lot worse without though.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

If you want to protect your casings in the event of an off, then the Renntec bars are the ones to go for, silly price including shipping or not as they create a cage around the lower engine.

If you are just worried about toppling over, then crash bungs are good - had them on mine, and they work. They do work in the event of going down the road as well, but you will get some scratches on your casings if that happens.

Front bungs on the front fork work well also, they saved mine sliders from getting scratched, even when mine just fell over (with me on it!). Not so sure about the rear sliders, as they don't stick out far enough to protect much at all in all honesty.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

Notty

simple - it has to be Renntec bars  :smile2:
The older I get the better I was
The problem with retirement is that you cant take a day off

I'm pretty sure I have R&G's on mine, protected the bike when I dropped it the other day BUT still took the paint off the top of the right hand case thingy. (not the clutch one, the other one).  So it was money well spent and much less visually obtrusive than the bars.

You won't beat the bars for protection though.  Its a matter of what you can tolerate looks-wise and what you are prepared to pay.

Never ridden a 14 with crash bars so no personal experience,
but are there any issues with them touching down on corners ?

A stock 14 touches down reasonably easy when used a little sporty
and I know crash bars can / do hit the deck on other makes and models.

When the footpegs drag the ground the crash bars are still fine ?

I have Renntec crash-bars installed on my 14, and just recently I had touching ground with foot pegs (left side). When I was inspecting pegs, I also notice slight marks on crash-bars which I did not remember before... Bu I cant be 100% sure bars touch ground, cause I had once drop standing bike on left side. But this new marks were on bars part, which should not be affected during standing bike fall...  :confused1:

From other side, removing generator cover, I lay my bike on right side, and it was laying on crash-bar. Looking on picture, it's Moto-GP leaning
But considering suspension compression during ride, I totally assume, it's possible to grab ground with Renntec crash-bars.

At track day one of the instructors came over and 7admired my bike. He said he used to have one for doing his training. Then said he sold it because he didnt like the sidestand bracket grinding.........!!!!
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Spend your money on rider training, the only way to avoid crash damage is to not crash.

You can have these for $20 if you'd like to pick them up from Lakeside on Saturday.
