Early 80's in the Falklands?

Close enough, it's mount Kent radar site on east Falkland in 1987, the temp dropped to -35 and froze the diesel oil in the storage tanks so we had no power for 4 days, bloody cold.

Yes, we did but we also added a lot of antifreeze.  Lucky for us the cook had gas so he became a very popular guy and we had hot food and drinks.
