Clutch slip when cold

Ideas for a cause please gents.

When cold the clutch lever feels 'wrong' you can't feel the clutch come back properly & it slips under load. After 5miles or so when it all warms up the clutch works fine. In colder weather it slips worse, so I know temp is an issue.

I've already rebuilt the slave cylinder so I suspect it's further into the clutch mech. Any common bits that gum up at high mileage & might be sticking until heat softens the gunge on them?

Finally, if I keep a few revs on & flick the clutch like I'm trying to wheelie but a lot more gentle I can feel it drop into place & it stops slipping until next time I touch the lever.

have you checked the clutch push rod see if its clean in the slave end and the casing and the measurement is right just one more thing to test few have had this and its been crap that builds up check before going further then you may need.

Yeah done all that. Hence I think it might be further inside.

I'll really must look at the manual to see what is inside at some point.

Did you change from mineral/semisynthetic to full synthetic oil?
Does the oil have the right spec?

Been using the same oil for the last 60k+ so it's not that. It started last winter, but cleaning the slave cylinder out seemed to fix it for a bit. It's back now though, so I might recheck the slave. Just looking for thoughts in case others had suffered it.

only things i can suggest is check the clutch springs
and see if the clutch basket is worn as you do have a high milage on your bike

Recondition the slave cylinder. They get really cruded up

Sorry didn't see you had already rebuilt the slave. Are you sure it was saveable ?. I.e not scored up too bad. The clutch is a simple thing.  If you drain the oil and remove the clutch cover. You can see its operation, should move about 12.5 mm.  The return is only effected by the springs, slave and push rod. There is another floating rod between the connecting rod and the clutch, but its unlikely to cause a problem. I would still recheck that piston in the slave. Sounds like its crabbing.

another that could affect is blocked hose or master cylinder holding residual pressure. cover off, undo banjo bolt at master, check for movement. iff none undo connection at slave. if still no release then unbolt slave cylinder. if still no release its in clutch assy.

Well either this heatwave means it's not getting cold enough to be a problem, or the oil change saturday got something out as it was fine for getting to/from work today.

It just says change the oil, so I've got two lots & swap it every 4k. That's right isn't it?

It's not fixed it by the way. The slip is back now we're back to normal English weather.
