So 900 miles on my Tiger 850
Tiger 850 sport.jpg
- it's a 900 but to distinguish it from the more expensive GT/Gt Pro they named it 850 ! As you may know I am a short arse,
5 foot 5 = 165cm. My 14 was lowered but now aged 71 was too heavy to manoeuvre around my garage and had trouble when coming to a stop. This bike was already lowered so happy days !
Ok, thought the drop in Hp to 85 on the Tiger would be noticeable but on the move its more than enough, yes more gear changing but with the Quickshifter
( never thought I needed one but its amazing going up and down the box ).
Then there are the brakes, Brembo Stylemas absolutely awesome stopping power.
 Tiger calipers.jpg
The tyres are Michelin anakee adventure 2 and my first thought was to ditch those for Road 6, however the anakee are 80/20 and I don't do off road any more. Well they are brilliant tyres on the road offering loads of grip and I guess the tread will last longer than me !.

Back to the power, my mates I ride with each week have a Honda Cross tourer v4 with 125bhp, and a Yamaha Fazer 1000 which is around 140bhp? I have no problem keeping up with them ( I always ride to my ability which is average )
they are both qualified advanced riders and instructors. The Tiger is so nimble compared to the 14.
I have a large top box but do miss the under seat storage of the 14. The Givi model I bought has the release mechanism inside so looks neater I reckon.

Bike averaging 60mpg + - clock shows, temp, gear , mpg , range , trip, time, second trip - the list goes on, not brilliant in bright sun.
Don't like the screen, its curved and view is distorted at the top, caught me out a few times which was when I tested the stopping power !

Would I change back? would love both but that's life. Oh, the Tiger forum is full of precious twats all trying to come top twat, so miss this forum big time.
Mods = crash bars, new mirrors , lowered Gel  seat ..watch this space
The older I get the better I was
The problem with retirement is that you cant take a day off

Hooli

Is that you stood next to your bike in the tyre pic Notty?

Hooli

Sounds like you're enjoying it though, that's more miles than you did in all the time you had your 14.

I have a couple of vertically challenged friends who have chosen these Tigers and rate them highly. You do really need to be able to put both feet flat on the ground on any bike in my opinion. Not too difficult on most sport bikes, because you sit in it. Big nakeds you're perched on top of a big lump in most cases.
Notty I've only ever used these two forums and since Vlad took ownership more so.
I find we have good banter between the regular contributors. I've met quite a few members at national meets.
I met and rode with Col KiwiFruit on our NZ South Island tour.
As always I encourage former GSX1400 owners to remain part of our community. You've been a great source of fun for some eh Hooli 🙀
Loved reading your review of your latest ride, stay upright and stay in touch please 🙏

Best allrounder I've ever owned 👍

1402 or not Notty, always welcome here mate
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

That bike has a lot of what I'd like in the future.

Adventure bike as an alternative to my dual sport..  :onya:
My favorite radial Brembo Stylema's...  :onya:
Some form of luggage...  :onya:
Two way quickshifter...  :onya:

After the last 2 bikes / 7 years proper cruise control is a must for me. If the bike has a two way quickshifter it means it's fly-by-wire so if it hasn't got it there'll be an option to add it.  :onya:

I'm impressed. Never really drooled over Triumphs but there's a lot to like about that one. I've started looking at Dual Sports. Something big enough to be nice on the road but not a huge fatty that's a drama on dirt roads.

Good on ya Notty, the bike looks great & I'm glad you found one that fits ya.  :onya:  Your rear tire is the same size as my front!
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

I don't think it's subjected to the same rider weight Col  ;)
There's always room in the world for a bit more tolerance and kindness.

Agreed, that's why I need a rear on the front and a truck tire on the back.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Nice looking bike Notty. Good to find something that allows you to continue riding and feel confident. Hope it gives you much trouble free motorcycling pleasure.
Don't be a stranger Notty
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Great looking bike Notty, funnily enough, my Mate made the same transition, from 1400 to triumph tiger.

Enjoy..... :smitten:

Notty, good choice👍Did you try a Suzi 800 VStrom Touring? Just wondering, also seems to tick some boxes.

Daytona

Notty,,my mate rode with us last week,he's just bought the 900 tiger with all the bells and whistles on it,I found it a bit tall and a bit on the heavy side, not a bad bike at all ,,to say he'd never buy an adventure bike,,I bought the suzuki v strom 800 re variant and as you say the quick shifter is a thing I wouldn't like to be without now (once I got used to it).

Those 850 Tiger Sports are one of the most underrated models that Triumph make, absolutely superb at what they do - I think most riders "miss them" when looking for a new machine as it doesn't naturally seem to fit in the Triumph line-up, however, those of my mates who have one absolutely love them. In fact its one of the bikes I'm considering changing my GS for, bit torn at present between the Triumph and perhaps a BMW R1250RS. Time will tell.

Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement
