1) My odometer suddenly leapt forward and added 93 miles that I have not, ridden. 

Anyone else experienced this or has an explanation. 

2) Yesterday, the bolt in the swingarm that holds the rear brake line came loose. Refastened it but came loose again and fell out, by the time I had got home. I noticed it when the rear brake started to bind and I stopped, to check this out.

Could the brake line coming loose, cause the binding or is this simply, a coincidence?

From memory, I think it's a locknut supposed to be on that, for the exact reason you've found out.  I'd say the brake is binding because it's not held in it's proper position and thus allowing the caliper to move about.


With regard to the 93km increase that you haven't ridden, would this addition co-inside with a 10 pint session at the local?  Can you remember that?

MrGee, no idea on added 93 miles, was on both trip meters and odometer. Do you sleep ride? Does your neighbour have a key? Is Specsavers due?  Rear brake line shouldnt affect binding ,but if its old original a bend in it could block it off.  caliper mounting bolts tight.

The boot in the top of the swingarm that hold the clip for the hose? I've not seen a problem with one but I think it's a rivnut type arrangement so might have come loose so it can't be tightened up properly.
I can't see it making the brake bind though.

Ok, looks like I've got the wrong bolt in my head.  It's the banjo bolt on the rear caliper, not the bolt holding the brace to the swingarm.   How the hell did a banjo bolt come out?  Copper washers n torque it up.

yup, that ones a rivnut.  Has no relation to the brake binding, must be a problem inside the caliper. As Col says, if it's a rubber line,  a kink may limit fluid flow, but unlikely imho, the bore is small and a bit of rear pedal pressure soon straightens any kink. More likely a stuck piston.  There's two bleed nipples on the rear, the back one is almost hidden

The extra mileage, it would be a sensor, crank I think, that's the one that is used to display the mileage, as there are no wheel sensors like on modern abs bukes.  Bike been running rough or stumbling?

1) The mileage has only, skipped on the odometer and neither, of the trips.

2) The bolt, is the one on the swingarm that holds the line in place and not, the banjo on the caliper.

All brake lines are Goodridge Aeroquip.

It's off the speedo sensor that runs next to the front sprocket & counts that 4 legged spider that fits into the end of the input shaft after the sprocket goes on.

It's an odd one though as the mileage is stored in the clocks not the ECU or anything.

Thanks Hooli, I was pretty sure it was measured off the crank rotations, just not sure which side.  Yeah, weird that it only goes to the clocks and not stored in the ecu.

There's actually a couple of posts GSXR Sites, odometer reading changing. Faulty speedo, pinched wiring sending pulses, moisture.

Interesting, the only fault I've ever had was self inflicted. I misrouted the speedo sensor wire once & the chain ate it.
