Glad to hear your wife is so concerned for your well being

No. I really should have something. I don't go anywhere real remote although some of the places I go phone reception is pretty on / off.

My wife and I both share our location with iPhones.
The find my phone thing that you can share.

Most of my bikes have air-tags.

Some rides I let her know what direction I'm heading.

It's something I should look into.
Not because I'm off conquering the wilderness, but there have been a few folk left the road on bikes and who weren't found for quite a while.

I love my solo rides, they are my escape and are just what I need, I don't get the same from riding with others, but it has its downsides.

I tried (with a very straight face) to explain that the scratch on the front guard and the one on the bark buster hand guard may mean the bikes now a write off and I may have to buy a new bike.

That didn't go down real well either...

I have a personal locator beacon that I carry when tramping and I occasionally take it when I'm going somewhere on the bike where there may be dodgy (or no) mobile signal...despite what the telcos advertise, there's a few such places here in NZ!!

I also have the What3Words app on my phone, which can identify your location to 3 metres...useful for more than emergencies. I recommend it.

As they say, better to have it and not need it etc.
There's always room in the world for a bit more tolerance and kindness.

Good to have I Phone , text to satellite is always there if 000 not working or no phone reception.

Finally, made it down, to Cheddar Gorge today.

Nearly, came a cropper in the process, twice.

First, I was going around, a roundabout when some old  :jack:  on a pushbike, came straight out in front of me.  :furious:
Managed to dodge him but hit a large stone that was lying in the road in the process, which sent me into the kerb of the central reservation, on the way off, the roundabout. Luckily, the wheel followed the line of the curve. Scary moment.  :furious:

Second, going through the Gorge and a car came around a corner, on the wrong side.  :wtf2:   :jack: Number 2

Don't think, I will be going back, for some time.  :smiley sign0181:

On the plus side, after scraping out my pants, I'd lost a few pounds.  :happy1:  :rofl2:

I bought a Garmin Inreach for this purpose. I tend to do some solo riding in remote locations and am sometimes "off the air" over multiple days. It allows the wife to keep an eye on me / stay in contact / locate my remains etc and also has an SOS feature for emergency services.

Checking in with messages via satellite from the middle of our Simpson Desert for example gives the wife (and me) some peace of mind. Downside is that there's a monthly subscription cost to devices like these, but most can be paused month-to-month.

Nice place that, I've ridden it once on Stroppy years ago.

I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

I can relate to that 100%, my time I call it especially Friday evening, sort of closes the working week and opens the weekend & is usually followed by a few beers while listening to the radio & cleaning the bike ready for the next outing

Today......

... and the view from my front gate as I pulled back in.
There is a planned burn not far away from here, but I don't think this is it.

I've seen 4 of the Louvre Van rail carriages recently on my travels. I have the perfect spot to put one next to my shed and it'd be easy to paint in the same shed colours.

Bit of a slim chance of finding one. I don't want a timber carriage, or a huge long one, and I don't want one across the country as transport is a killer.

Don't really need one, but if I spotted something locally I'd certainly find a home for it.

You could always park it up on that dead-end siding outside your place! What's the story with the road to nowhere Tony?

Where I live has been resurfaced now.
New neighbour thinks he's special so got the council to resurface it, even though it was fine.
Was a through road, neighbour got the end closed off, a few of us have forced a track through and are using it as we then get to drive past his house...

The one in the pic was just a place I was exploring. I think it was an old highway where they took the bridge out.
