Quote from: Mr Gee on Wednesday, 08 July  2026, 09:00 AMDamn, they're getting far, too complicated.  :confused1:

It used to be ignition light, oil light, high beam light, an indicator light and maybe, a neutral.  :notworthy:

It still is. That's just stuff that's there when you want it.
My other Busa has none of it, I ride them both the same.

Think of it more like your car, TV or phone. They have hundreds of things you can set, adjust, use or ignore, more than my bike has. They are there if you want them.
Folk don't hate their cars because the radio has treble and base, the seat has adjustment, the air vents have various setting and angles, the head rests go up and down. They are just things you set and forget.

Not negative about new bikes, love them.  :smitten:

The point is, the more unnecessary stuff you have, the more there is to go wrong and the more expensive it is, to put right.  :whatever:

Plus, everything is interconnected, so, finding any fault, is so much harder. As with the intermittent fault that I have been struggling with until recently. It could have been anyone, of a dozen things.  :onya:

Over 3 years on the H2, 4 years on the Busa, no tech faults. The self diagnostic system is great if I ever need it. Like a very advanced version of the GSX14's.

Your bike looks to be in fine fettle Jeff. Winter weather eh, blue skies and near zero humidity.

Hooli

Quote from: grog on Thursday, 09 July  2026, 03:56 PMWhich makes GSX14 a mongrel thing because it should've been built with OBD2.

Typical of a lot of vehicles though as bikes lag behind cars.

I remember a "flash code" on the warning light to try and diagnose ABS faults on a Jag XJ40 for example.

grog

Yeah flash codes, short a connector and count, then look at the list. Toyota,Ford etc etc all had their versions. Mid 80s Nissan RB30 ECU had adjust screw, red & green led built in. Set it in diagnostic, adjust A/F by turning the screw, more green was rich, red leaner. 40 yrs ago and those things had perfect fuelling right through. They then took that away, had to buy a bloody tool to adjust PC3 etc. Money rules.

It's a work horse Chris, mechanically sound like all my bikes, low resolution pic so you can't see the blemishes, I rather spend my time riding not polishing.
I used to water ski around that area about 3 years ago a guy got nibbled by a shark there and that is a salt water lake, Lake Maquarie beautiful area, I won't be going for a tree change always been close to water here and overseas.

Just a quick trip today to scrub a brand new rear tyre in which felt quite twitchy at first.
Heading to Canungra tomorrow for 9am at Cafe Metz if anyone is interested.

Quote from: Eric GSX1400K3 on Thursday, 09 July  2026, 03:26 PMWhich makes a suitable OBDII diagnostic tool a must have in the modern workshop.

I had an auto electrician look at my 14 with all of his gadgetry and knowhow and he couldn't find anything.  :whatever:

So I don't think an OBD in the hands of a novice like me, would have helped.  :happy1:  :rofl2:

That's part of the problem,  IF our bijes had an OBDII port, it would make troubleshooting easier, but they dont, just the simple C codes, then a healthy dose of guessing and experience based knowledge.  That's part of what makes this place so good, that and Hooli's study of arseless chapters-wearing HD riders...
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Are you still upset I didn't take pics?

Mind you, haven't you got a BMW so required to wear lederhosen to all owner's club events?

not at all upset mate  :happy1:
Yes I do own a BMW, but I'm Dutch, so i get to wear knickerbockers and clogs instead.

Sunny, not a cloud in the sky, clean dry roads, hardly any traffic... but Fark! It was cold this morning. Bike went well, S23's warm up and grip well beyond anything I can do, but I didn't stay out too long. Back to my log burner.

Still better than Saturday. Needed to be at Blackbutt down the range by 6:45am. I'd seen the forecast, I took Fortuner, it was 3 degrees C on the way down.

Should be greatful... mid winter in a couple of days, still haven't seen a frost yet this year.

Edit:  Breakfast at The Kerb Cafe, Highfields. Not a regular spot. Little cafe in a carpark at a shopping centre. I just wanted somewhere warm! Food and drink was actually OK. Better than some of the country cafes I use.

How did you gear shift wearing clogs?  Did ya use a round rasp to make an indentation on the left one?  But still, the shifts would feel a bit wooden wouldn't they? :onya:
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

I made a mod that the gear lever sticks into the clog, just need to wiggle the toes up and down to change gear.

Now that you mention it, the clogs could be why the brakes feel wooden too.

Upside is, ive always got a hard stand to put the side stand onto, and a storage space for my Kroket and Bitterballen... :P
