I have a bit of Victron gear in our Van. It compliments the 1400w of solar.

Thats not much solar to run a coffee machine, fridge, microwave, hair straightener and charge two ebikes.... when it's dark :stir:
How many Ah of batteries are you charging ?
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Very nice setup MickyJB.  Well today the Shunt arrived from Akl overnight. Very fast.   That can be installed tomorrow, but I've since found out the controller I've got is actually a PWM controller even though it's marketed and labelled as MPPT, so I've ordered the Victron 100/20 controller, will be here next week.  :onya:

I have 2 solar panels on the older shed that was here when I bought the place about 5 years ago.

No idea what tyre or size.

I did put a multimeter on the cables hanging down inside.

Both gave me a reading.

I guess I need an inverter and some batteries ?

Don't really need them at the moment but I guess they'd run a trickle charger or two.

I do like the idea of solar, but like gas, water, septic, Starlink etc, if I do it I want it to be an equivalent to mains with no compromises, so big panels, big batteries and maybe a back up diesel generator.  Neighbour has his generator wired up to kick in if the battery's ever get below a certain point.

Edit: My panels are about 1m square.
One reads 20.5v / 5.88 something I don't understand.
One reads 20.8v / 4.92 something I don't understand.

Elec-trickery is witchcraft to me !
I can't see it, can't hear it, can't smell it...
then either all the smoke escapes or it bites me !

Edit-2.  It took me a while and a lot of head scratching to work out that my house runs fine off a generator, but not one with an earth. Can't have an earth on the house and the generator. Now my generator has a switchable earth. On to use it in the paddock, off to power the house.

Quote from: T250 on Wednesday, 03 June  2026, 04:38 PMI switched to 4 pots from a SV1000 iirc, my 6 pots had been refurbished, everything was new but the 4 pots just seem to have more bite, don't look as blingy but definitely will be staying on.
so is that a straight bolt on option then with 63mm mount spacing or does it need adaptor plates?

Yes, straight replacement...and a lot easier to bleed  ;)

Yard sale in a local town.
Woman had a 40 gallon drum and I've been after one.
Got chatting and she just wants stuff gone.

To the ears of a hoarder that was my cue !

40 gallon drum, drill, a heavy chain, plug spanners, jump leads and a heap of other stuff... $35  / £18.

Same here, retired nearly two yrs, used to keep up with car stuff, totally not interested now. Couldn't remember all the new Chinese names if I tried. Booked in next month to have car serviced, first time in my life.
