Oil 2T in fuel

Hello.- Always when the winter is harsh I have had the habit of adding 0.3% of the best 100% synthetic 2T oil to the gasoline to lubricate the upper part of the cylinder during cold starts and until the optimal temperature is reached.

Always with carburetors but I think it should not affect the injectors.

Any opinion?

Not that it gets real cold here, but the oil pump sits immersed in the sump, first few cranks and oil is already at the cams and valve lifters, plus whats already sitting in the wells under each set of lifters. 

At that low concentration i don't think it would hurt the injectors.

If anything adding that to the fuel could prevent corrosion in the tank from condensation, but if you filled the tank to the top before putting it away for winter, that also limits any condensation.

Inthr USA they use a product called Seafoam for winterisation or cold start issues.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

I guess if you have the 2 stroke oil at hand it's a solution for you, else just buy some fuel stabiliser and perhaps an Upper Cylinder Lubricant, like Moreys.

I use Moreys in all my engines, from lawnmower to bikes to boat. It keeps everything clean in the fuel system.  You don't need much, 30ml for approx 20L.  As an example, I've run Moreys in the boat fuel for over 2o years, an old 2 stroke 150hp 6 cylinder with 6 carbs, that I've had since new. No work has ever been done on the carbs.  Last year I stripped down the carbs for the very 1st time, thinking the passage ways & jets & floats etc must be gummed up with varnish by now after 24+ years.  When I pulled them apart, they were clean as with NO buildup anywhere!  Gobsmacked, so I just rebuilt them with new seals, gaskets, floats & needle & seat etc.  Moreys had kept everything clean & buildup free even though the boat sits around a lot over the winter months.

I have used for years GOOD two stroke oil about 0.3% to prevent rust in tank in all my bikes.
And I have no rust problems. No injector problems either.
0.2-0.3% doesn't cause any detonation problems even on higher boost levels...

I have done as per T24's recommendation. I did bore scope before last season. It could be that it caused minor carb build-up. After not using it last season, I have planned to scope again before this season starts. BTW, used high quali 2-stroke oil.

Then I decide if it is worth it to continue.

When I told my dad about me doing this, he was familiar with it. Hadn't used it for forever though.

I always use to put a thimble full of Castrol R in my triumph 900daytona,not sure if it did it good or not but by god it smelt bloody lovely 😊

Daytona,sure smelt nice. Was like being at the speedway races.  I'm not sure but I think few drops of brake fluid in petrol gave similar smell, might've been atf, long time ago🤷🏼

Vegetable oil does the same thing.
I use Valvoline 2T racing oil in my 2 strokes not quite as strong smell as Castrol R.

So if a shot of that moreys for instance is good for corrosion and fuel stability etc, would you leave it fully fuelled when laid up for a bit thus keeping less of the tank inards exposed to air, or drain it down to rely on the Moreys coating the inside of the tank  :whatever:

I leave them fully fuelled (or try to) when leaving the bike not ridden for a while.  I wouldn't reply on any residue clinging to the insides of the tank to protect from corrosion. Moreys doesn't create or leave any residue, it becomes part of the petrol & if left in a dish to the open air, the whole lot would evaporate, nowt left behind.
