How much is a sump worth ?  :whatever:

Too much, but also took ages to get one in stock at the dealer and no wreckers had any at the time.

My recommendation? Don't damage your sump. :)

thread pitch oil drain cap is M14x1,25

Endless

Since this thread is alive again, I'll add my two cents. Also put a Fumoto on, thought I'd try it after seeing some were stripping their threads. Been on there for many years now with no issue, exhaust is lower anyway so that wears the brunt of any speed hump rash. I was paranoid about the tap flicking on somehow so tie wired it. Dunno if it's worth it, but I like it now it's there (convenience/lazyness) and don't need to chase crush washers or torque it.

Endless, i agree with all that 👍Not sure how many sump plugs i undid in my working life, not difficult for sure but fumoto i like.Worms might crawl out of can 😂

I consider it very dangerous given the low height of the oil pan, in addition to not being protected by an escape line that stands out more. when 4 to one line

Not really a problem Mate, others have ripped stock sump plugs off. Be aware, all thats needed to be said.

Its one of those each to their own things, I guess. Heard of more people stripping threads than anyone having an issue with the tap. Pry that can a bit harder.. :stir:

Snapey

The first thing I do/did with every bike I bought was to drill the sump plug at the first oil change. When replacing the plug it was just nipped up and lock wired. The only time I ever thought I'd strip a thread was when I used a torque wrench for the factory setting. Way too bloody tight in my opinion so I stopped well short of what Suzuki recommend

I've no idea how so many people strip sump threads, maybe they don't wipe them clean as you can get bits of rubbish from the old oil in there & that'd damage the thread as you replace the plug.
