Last steering clunk I had was solved* by soaking the UJs in the steering column under the bonnet in WD40 every few months.

I wish Hooli, have checked Unis, clunk is in unit on rack.

Figured you'd have checked tbh grog.

Had to replace a rack on a MG Midget years ago as the bush at one end had gone, right faff even on a simple car like that.

Years ago Hooli, lh bush Holden Commodore,Vauxhall, Opel same crap. We were told couldnt service. Rattles badly, $2 bush was available. Fix was so easy, take end off rack after turning to the right. Actually turn left, using rack out of bush to push it out. Knock in new bush, $2 job. Think back then was $600 for new rack.

Reminds me of a PC my parents had & the computer shop said it needed replacing as it kept crashing.

5mins to open it & wrap a couple of layers of sellotape over the end of a memory stick so the clip held it properly & the PC still works to this day.

My dad (88 y.o. and very stubborn)doesn't want me to do maintenance on his laptop. "If something is broken you can fix it then". This was the case, after several years, this week. Attachments didn't show in his emails. I sat down and noticed that the case had buckled substantially. Took the bloated lithium-ion battery out. Now much less likely that I will get notified that my dad died in a house fire.

Works fine without battery for his use-case. Good opportunity to put an up-to-date linux version on.

Today, under dash to recheck, universals and shaft are inside this model.Noise still seems in rack motor. Decided to re torque shaft to spline bolts, got around 45 degrees more, they were tight but not enough. Success, noise& clunk gone. Persistence/ stubbornness is a good thing.

Today was first time in 53 yrs paid for a car repair. Retired now, no hoist access. Sump needed reseal on car, thought about jacking up and rolling around on floor, decided too hard. All done and paid for now. Tomorrow clean up shed floor where its been leaking.Wasnt as distressing as i thought it would be.

I hear ya Grog. Today jacked up the rear of my ute. I'm running a cable to connect up the rear vision camera for our caravan. So I'm on my creeper feeding the cable along side the original loom and I start feeling sick. Haven't laid on my back working with my hands above my head since my heart op nearly 18 months ago. Weird, went inside and laid on the couch. After a couple of hours I came right but I did feel really sick. Don't like paying for stuff I'm capable of doing... but maybe I should.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Tally, yeah i know you just ordered a tool, but, best way ive ever found is 3/8 extension and appropriate sized socket. Just works so easy, one of the best tricks ive ever learned. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qY7rCT3HGPo

That's a bloody good tip Grog! What an excellent way to get 'em out.
