Hi ya Marmite, great to have you aboard.

Now what's this electrical issue you've mentioned?

That wasn`t me at Fowlers sir.

Thank you all for the great welcome. I recognise some of your names from when I used to frequent the old .org forum. I hope you are all well.

The electrical problem? Oh yes. That. When I last laid the bike up, I neglected to disconnect the battery. Went to ride again and battery dead. no life at all. Wont take a charge either. Buy a new battery. charge it. Fit it. Oh. As soon as connection is made, even if the ignition key is in my pocket, things start to happen! The fuel pump bursts into life (not flames yet), the lcd readout says "check" instead of giving a fault code, and I had a chap called Paul, from Guildford modify the tacho to be a gear position indicator. the leds in that seem to flash in random sequences. most strange. I haven`t actually tried to start the bike as I don`t want to bolt the battery in place in case I see smoke and need to disconnect it double quick. Mole grips on terminals might work. I shall go and play shortly and we shall see how big a bang dodgy electrics can make. This could prove expensive.

So it seems to think the ignition is on. Strange.

Before trying to start it, think I'd have the headlight off, disconnect the ignition switch and spray the connections with contact cleaner. I'd also check the kill switch and finally spray some contact cleaner down the ignition barrel.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

My thoughts exactly sir. Thanks for your input. I will have the tank off too, to check for smoke (at least have the rear supported to keep fuel pump connected). Rodent damage maybe?

That's possible - it happened to Seth - so check your rubbers on your injectors as well, as I think on his 14, they had a nibble or two there as well
