Hey All,

Would like some advice on what, if anything, I can do with my lcd screens in the dials.

The bike was a bit of a barn find and there is a lot of work needed but I don't know what I can do here?

Actually I think it may have been parked in the sun for a while!

Here's a photo. Both lcds are the same. practically unreadable.

Thanks.

Like an alien from outer space.
You're more likely to get a response if you introduce yourself first mate.
Mine have been that way for about the last 5 years of my 23 years of ownership.

Only thing that I can think of is to replace the lcd screens. I know a guy here in Germany that likely has the parts and has an extensive history on fixing these units. Shoudn't be difficults to replace them yourself or have someone with soldering skills do it for you. Of course you would need the parts - source a broken unit where the lcds are intact.

Looks like a new set of instruments required.Rims dont look good.I saw a full set think in Holland, just on $2g Aust.Other way is aftermarket gauges, someone on here has them.Intros are are also good manners

It's a "barn find". To make it a minter lotta $$$ required. Much cheaper to buy complete bike in decent order; but then the only fun is on the road.

Maybe the poster beefs up his atrophied social skills and descents with his UFO to the introduction section, reports on himself (like which planet he is from) and the bike (incl. pics). Then he and we will have a bit more fun and something more to base our advice on.

Only thing there is the mileage/odometer is stored in the clocks. If it matters to you.

Tony Nitrous

I have a KOSO aftermarket dash on mine.
It has several nice features the factory clocks don't, but the down side is apart from not keeping the original mileage and not suiting the styling it won't bring up fault codes.
I did originally have to have a bit of a conversation at the Dept of Transport explaining why the mileage was now 000001 when I reregistered it.

Give Paul Thompson a shout.
Do a search on his name on here - "Thommohawk" - as he does clock repair/refurbishing service (you'll need to pm him)
He's known as "Q" about these parts .
I don't know what stock of parts he has but he used to collect damaged ones for spare parts 🫡
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

Think hes another one hit wonder Chris. We get a few.

GSXKING

Yeah I kind of felt that Greg.
No intro then straight into a fairly extensive question and zero follow up.
There have been a few joining lately and no intro either so I guess they're either shy or ignorant.

OK. Sorry about the late introduction and reply. For some reason I missed the replies to this post.

Thanks to one of the replies I got about it on the GSX1400 Australian owners Facebook group I learned you could replace the polarized layer on the LCD. I ordered a sheet of heat resistant film from the US. I took the clocks apart and carefully remove the existing film. I have attached some photos of the film and the clocks before and after. One mistake I made was removing the next layer of film from the right hand side LCD. I tried this because the clocks look like they were still burnt. Which they are. But it made no difference and was difficult to remove. I then measured and cut out two pieces of the new film and stuck them on. You can see the state of the film I removed so I am hoping there is enough improvement to be able to read the LCD during the day. Unfortunately I won't know for some time as the bike going to take a lot of work to get back on the road.

Some important points
The clocks are not hard to remove and take apart if you are handy.
I think it was on this site that I picked up the tip about using two teaspoons to remove the clock needles. Brilliant!
The needles did come apart but I superglued them when re-assembling.
You need to remove the two screws holding the clock faces and take them off to get to the LCDs.
Be careful removing the old film. I used a scalpel blade and tweezers then gently peeled it off.
I used a very small amount of isopropyl alcohol to clean up but be careful as too much can affect the layer beneath.
I bought heat resistant polarized film because I hoped it would reduce the chances of sunburn. Make sure it has an adhesive side.
Before you cut out the two pieces of polarizing film make sure they are the correct way round. If you rotate the sheet of film in front of the lcd you will see it go from dark to clear. Once it is clear that is the correct orientation and you can then cut it to size. obviously make sure the adhesive is at the back.
Make sure you gently turn the clock shafts all the way to the left before replacing the needles and pointing them to zero.

Well I hope this can help someone else in the future. I don't lay claim to any of this info as I got it from reading the posts here and on Facebook. I'm learning as I go.
Thank you to all the people that have help so far. Believe me I got more questions!
