Just what you expect from insurance companies. I cant complain at all, house devastated twice in four years, all fixed, takes a while, drove me crazy but they came through. Both repairs totalled just on $150 thou.

I never bother with the leathers & helmet cover, sounds like I'd have been wasting my money if I had done!

Insurance companies don't make record profits by paying out easily Mick.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Quote from: Mick_J on Tuesday, 08 October  2024, 07:59 PMJust got a call from insurance assessor saying the bike is to be written off as there are no tanks available for this model, or I can have it back with a wad of cash to fix it myself.  Does anyone know of a K7 tank in good condition for sale.

Another twist is the driver who hit me is now claiming I rode into him when I changed lane without looking ,as he hit me 2-3 foot from the kerb, this means I was riding on the pavement, so it might drag on a bit longer.

Depending on how much wad of cash they are offering plus the write off ... you might want to consider buying another GSX1400 and keeping the damaged for parts or vice versa .  What I'm saying is .. it's cheaper to buy a complete bike than try and source parts that are expensive and non existent

Thanks Micky, I'm looking at all my options but until the bloody insurance company get their shit together I'm sat here with my thumb up my arse waiting for them.  Lucky for me I have other bikes but if it was my only one I'd be really pissed.

I've considered letting them have it and just taking the money, I've considered doing as you say and buying another and using mine as a spares cupboard,  I've considered getting it back with some cash and returning it back to original over time and I've considered getting it back and doing it up as a special and selling it on or maybe keep it.

Lets hope they pay soon. My way would be take the bucks, decide then. You have others, another 14?

I do spend a fair wedge in my insurance, cars and bikes, but I always chase up a few things and get them in writing.

# Agreed valuation.
# All mods and accessories covered.
# Option to buy back any salvage.
# Rider and pillions gear covered.
# Cover for unregistered bikes.

Hope things go as well as they can. I'd be taking the salvage and getting my paint guy to replay whatever panels I found.

Well the spaz that caused the accident has still not admitted liability but my insurance has paid up and the bike should be back home next week.  Still undecided what to do with it, might break it up for parts but I could just buy a front brake master cylinder clamp and just ride it with the dent in the tank while I decide.

I'd ride it & speak to one of the dent magician type people, I've seen damn good results from them on tanks before.

Mine came with a dented tank. It was always on my to-do list, repair or replace. Over time I actually enjoyed throwing my magnetic tank bag on and not stressing about the marks and scratches that are easy to collect. I'd still like a better tank but it doesn't bother me (not that mine was ever a pretty bike!)

Well the rebuild is going slowly (too cold in the garage until recently) but I thought I would share some information with you all.  In the last 12 years I have had 2 accidents, both not my fault and unavoidable, car/van drivers not looking and driving into me and both times my generator cover has been scuffed, first time this was replaced but second time the bike was written off as the tank had taken a spanking.  So despite having R&G crash bobbins fitted to the front of the engine the generator cover took a beating so I have bought these.  For anyone else who only has bobbins these have to be worth a look.

I have none of that crash stuff on any of my bike's. If I did put it on I would probably have an accident.
Personally I don't care about the bike's protection, if it's going to happen I'd be more worried about myself because I don't bounce anymore.

I'm more intested in how good your engine covers look.   Mine a getting a bit pitted. Love the brushed alloy look too.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Andre

No pitting of my polished covers. Require little maintenance. But I only ride on good dry no-salt roads. If it were different, I'll probably get them hard-chromed.
