Or just stop being a clumsy clot?

Sounds like one of those nightmare moments we all have to me.

I have one of those Barmy, saved my arse many times. Seth, i have a bore scope camera, goes down plug hole, maybe borrow one, they show lots.

Retrieval Tool with LED light

First I would try locating it with a bore-scope.

May also use double-sided sticky tape rapped around a wire to catch it.
If you can't grab the bolt, might be able to drop it into the sump if there is enough passage for it.

Exactly Andre, needs finding first. Is it in oil, is it just lodged? If it can be found, bore scope, then maybe some loctite on probe, let it set on bolt, tough one.

So found 2 rare earth magnets at work small and strong enough to lift the bolt (tried it on the other bolt and if it can touch it it will lift not out)
If that doesn't work I've a clutch holding tool coming as the oil gallery it's in is behind the clutch basket and I've also ordered a enderscope with a light and a grabber tool.
If I can see it I'll get it .
Thanks @hooli I felt a right idiot when I watched it drop .
Thanks for all the info and advice.
I'll let you know how it goes as I really don't want to have to remover the motor .

I'm not sure on the layout of the oil galleries, but would removing the oil temp sensor give you more access to poke around too?

So finally a break on this build
I found 2 tiny rare earth magnets at work and luckily they were strong enough to grip the bolt and I got it out of the motor .
The top of the engine is now fully sorted .
Just the clutch to rebuild as I found a broken plate when I took it apart .
Other than that it might just be ready for an mot later in the week .

Awesome Seth, great result mate
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Hooli

Handy to have found the broken plate then, so worth it.

It was like the bike was trying to tell me .
Never heard of clutch problems at 52k miles though 🤔
The metal plates are a little blue but bit suspect it's just from lack of use .
