Hi guys my buddy i ride with has a 14 with a loud cam chain noise hes bought a new cam chain adjuster am i right to think to replace it we just take the old one out .bolt the new one in its place and jobs done ?thanks

kja

No its not that simple, ideally you need a manual, theres a link online somewhere, then it cam cover off and the ignition pick up cover off then align the timing marks. Then remove the old camchain tensioner, ponder over why its not working then replace once fixed or fit the new one, DO NOT just unbolt it and hope for the best.

seth

mark at the milage your bike has done the tensioner should be fine
unless its sticking or has a problem.

Blubber

There a several on here with original cam chain and tensioner with more than 60.000 miles / 100.000 kilometres.

No excessive noise or even wear what so ever.

It sounds like the tensioner might be stuck for whatever reason.

They can stick..The Bandit one's do it as well.

If you're removing it order new gasket AND tensioner spring as it'll probably be compressed.

As Seth said though..Do it by the manual when you refit it..You don't want to get it wrong!!
Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups!

Done my friends cam adjuster this morning it sounds loads better .we just simpley un bolted the old one made a new gaskit out of gaskit paper put new, adjuster in and was carefull not to,turn the engine over untill the new adjuster was fitted .the chain cant hop a teeth if its not moved so no need to re time it my old sv650 was done the same way with no problems

seth

Seth i cant seem to post pics wish i could last time i tryed i had 3 attempts and still no picture ,in the end gsxbarmey posted the picture of my bike for me so ive given up trying to post pictures on here ..and yes a lot of wear on the adjuster its got a few flat teeth in about the middle and the spring was allso compresed a bit the new spring is a tiny bit longer. my riding buddy bike is a bit rougth been misstreted he dont wash it or any thing ,to him its just a secound bike

seth

guess it is what it is then
don't worry about the pics
shame its not looked after even a little as my second bike needs to be as reliable as it can be or it's not worth having it otherwise.
