Renewing bike interest

I prefer to ride alone, I like to go at a pace I'm happy with, which is quite often a bit quicker than others.

I'm definitely no racer, but if I know the road, I like to utilise that knowledge and turn it into quick cornering, trail brake in & hard accelerate out and occasionally getting the boot or pegs down is also fun.

Any decent group will tell you exactly that and wait for you at breaks in order to accommodate that.  Unfortunately there are a lot of groups not like that, so personal judgement and discretion is required.

Recently I've been riding with a local BMW Owners  Club. I'm comfortable riding with them. Some are a bit quicker than I. They run a good ride and have opened up to invited riders of other breeds. No hot doggers on sports bikes. They have a lead rider and a tail end Charlie, the second rider stops at an intersection so no one goes the wrong way. They then slot back in in front of tail end charlie.
