did this recently as the fork legs were looking a bit manky, didn`t want to go the highly polished route so just rubbed them down with wet and dry then finished them off with steel wool, easy to maintain and looks closer to std than polished

Your way looks bloody good Steve. Ive been thinking of painting mine Hammerite grey, same as i did crash bars. Very tough coating. Now not sure which way to go.

They don't stand out at all, just look new

While you are there, you may want to try to get back to OEM 'brushed aluminium' look: Scotch Brite (from under the sink as well :-) ), scrubbing always sideways, then hardened clear coat.

They look good, I was contemplating scotchbiteing them( have done other stuff with it) but was happy with the steelo finish as easier to maintain uncoated I think

that looks great, what clear coat are you using? Mine could do with a return (havevrebuilt the internals twice now)
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

I've used a product made by French Company specialized in old cars/bikes/etc. paints.
Website in French only, I'm afraid ;-)
