I'd say if it wont even start or fire on starter fluid you have an electrical problem, check to see if you have a spark.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

Quote from: Hooli on Tuesday, 20 June  2023, 10:16 PMHaving seen how cheap those are I've ordered one as a spare to put on the shelf, I find the filters block after 50k miles or so which means my current one is nearly half used.

Ive done the same Hooli and I dont even need a filter.... Yet !

If these were around before i did external filter, probably would be me also. Was lots then for filter, guessing but was over $700, cant remember. No probs or regrets with how ive gone.

Hooli

Aye the last genuine filter I got for mine was about £170.

Still discussing fuel filters after all these years. Think of me next time you're in the middle of nowhere and your bike is starving for fuel and wonder why I didn't listen to the old coot when he said to fit an external filter.
If you look like your passport photo then you're too sick to travel.

You know my thoughts Snapey.  :)

My one of these arrived today, bar the screw holes it looks identical to the real thing to me. Not that I've compared it to an old one to prove it. It'll now sit on the shelf till I need it.

All sold - are you on commission Simon?  :rofl2:

Hi Geoff (Notty),
I didnt get the last one (though its still in the post)..
There is more than one seller of those filters if I remember correctly..

By the way how do you like the calipers?
In my opinion they are better in the flesh than the photos showed.

So glad a cheaper filter has been found, not worrying me as external works. Sure was a rip off the genuine one. Hope it meets youre micron standard Andre, long time ago but were discussions on it. Externals are 30, doubt youll get specs from your in tank copy, I might be wrong again.  Hope i am.

I have compared it to the old one, they are identical except for the screw  holes. Quality, judged by sight/feel, is also identical.

Sure hope you are wrong :) It was (is) a concern to me. Original filter element is paper. Can't see that they dared leaving it out to save a couple cent. While I can't see, I can imagine it. Besides the paper filter being proper micron for the application, it has a VASTLY greater filter surface than the tiny filter element you are using. Also consider that the micron spec only filters particles of stated size by, lets say 90%. As long as your and my boat stays afloat everything is ok
There are many proper filters one could consider for external use, I have not found one that fits the dimensions I require for placement.

Should I feel very rich one day, I buy another one just to cut it open to have a looksy :imrgreen:

Another concern is the pressure regultator. Haven't found the time to measure it yet but will do (hope) this week. As a retired person time is a very scarce resource.

ok, update.   new pump and filter did nothing.  however even with the tank on the ground, there is a whining sound when key turned, which i thought was the fuel pump.  what could sound like a fuel pump whining for about 30 seconds?
