??? So guys its a sad moment but M C E INSURANCE have well and truly fucked me over in my claim despite the bike being in very good condition and insured for £4500 and sending them the lasted advertisement of 1402 being up for sale all from different advertisements. They have told me its a total right off and £2096 was all they will offer and having gone down the complainant department and my lovely mrs g being a Soliicters they still wont give any more and they have told me its a final offer . So this will be the end for me as a proud 1402 owner but I haven't got the funds to replace the lovely bike .
So if any of you have MC fucking E check your policy even if you put £5000 6 7 thousand there research market value will not come any were near your bike replacement
My helmet and leathers replacement is also shit by then even with there top cover I had my excess is £250 and you have to send them the jacket. Helmet and bike trousers for them to inspect or repair or keep and I have to pay to send them as well . So guys be very warned of MCE and just to had there complaints department are totally shit all read of a screen no personal feeling from them .I could go on and on as this has taken three weeks of very painful phone call and emails I can only say I will never go to them again :furious: :furious: :furious:
Mrg, feel for ya. Insurance fuckers.
I've never heard a good word about MCE.
Not good at all looks like we'll be changing from them.
Can you buy it back as it can be rebuilt .
Hi Seth no they wont sell it to me this is very frustrating because I know the engine and wheels alone are 1500 tank well. You no to and that's just a few main parts
That's not good
@Mrg, however are you sure you have to accept their offer? If you refuse it, the bike is still yours and has no claim against it, the difference is though you would need to find the parts to put it back on the road. Might be worth considering not claiming and doing that if financially its better for you and you keep the bike.
Mce strike again,,I cannot understand why insurers always ask for the bikes value at the point of insuring with them..at the end of the day they will only offer bottom book price in the event of a claim,,feel for you pal .
I feel for ya MRG, have a think about Daves' suggestion, I'd be looking at keeping it & fixing it or breaking it, either way you're sure to get more than they're offering.
Hi Mate,
So sorry to hear your predicament. I have been worried about this myself as my insurer (Bennett's) although accepting the valuation of my K2 in truly immaculate condition of £7k wouldn't accept it as a Classic until next year. Therefore the value is not guaranteed if I have to claim but they did say I would get fair market value based on current selling prices 🙄
Here is an article that may help. Not quite the same situation as you but it does offer you another legal challenge you could make. Good luck mate.

Not the same thing but wife had her mini stolen back in the 80s - it was a nice little car but when found it had been trashed. The insurance company offered some ridiculous offer for the right off and we rejected it - My wife was Police at the time and took it to her Super who uncovered a scam. Needless to say she got market value for it and the insurance company responded by say to her face they never wanted to see her ever again! The ended up paying more than what the car was worth. A nice outcome so maybe you should talk to the cops!
That sucks Mrg ! What arseholes !
What a bunch of tossers :furious: :furious: :furious:
Bastards, they are all quick to take your money but a bit shy when it comes to giving it back. These fuckers charged you to insure a bike for £4500 so that's what they should pay out especially as that's about the right price for a 1400. I hope my insurance company are a bit better than that.
Mrg so sad that while insured its more of a token insurance policy for which you pay good money.
I can only speak for NZ. Here you can withdraw your claim without financial penalty. However you may still finish up with your name lodged on a claims register that all insurance companies use...... against you later. Pretty sure you can ask for a second valuation and you have the right to submit your own valuation.
If they do not release the bike back to you they have technically stolen the bike.
As an aside, first port of call for an insurance company is often to try and make you put it in the "too hard basket" lovely tactic to use on the elderly. "Delay and conquer" is another winner they use. "Stroppy and threatening" can work well for them too.
Assessors l have had dealings with ask for a quote for repairs. I always say l don't quotes but am happy to provide an estimate and a scope of repairs. I have found insurance assessors are not keen to have repairers partially strip a job to reveal the extent of damage. I have been caught out more than once by an assessor saying we will tidy that up at the end of the job. Additional repair costs are not easy to achieve if you have not got lots of photos to substanciate additional repair costs. I find its better to get approval first but it can slow the repair process
Im starting to rant. Finally insurance assessors are trained in the art of negotiation and tying you up in words. Hoping you settle for less. Even better if you give them a reason to deny your claim.
Insurance fraud is huge. Told recently of two lndians buying two uninsured heavily damaged cars, park them as if they have hit each other then make claims. Bad move !!
I had it explained how you can lose your home because of a small fraudulent claim.
Fraudulent claim, insurance canceled. Fraudulent claim lodged on claims register, triggered cancelation of house insurance. Insurance company notifies bank to say they have withdrawn their cover. Bank wants their risk covered, no insurance company will offer cover, bank demands repayment of loan.
Sorry bit of a long winded post but hopefully of interest.
Good luck with whichever way you go Mrg.
Mrg, I would start to look elsewhere for satisfaction, they should not be able to get away with this, I would start here.

I really feel for you mate - and all good points made by others in this thread.
The golden rule of thumb is to always turn down their first offer if a write-off is established. Normally the second offer is accepted by the insured.
The offer they have made is insulting and absolutely unrealistic. In my book you have every right (as the legal owner of the bike) to turn it down. What level write-off is it?
According to the Financial Ombudsman, the offer made by the insurer [should reflect the price the vehicle would be sold for at a a reputable dealership before it was damaged[/b]. On that basis alone, their offer should have far exceeded the one they made, therefore the FO is the way to go.....
Sorry folks - i`ve just noticed how old this thread is. Anyhow, maybe something of what i`d written could be of help to someone in the future!
I think i`ll wait until the Forum is back to its familiar status before writing anything else.... :rofl2:

We had exactly the same situation with my wifes car. We had valued it at £6000 at the time of insuring it, but they would only give half that value when it was written off. We objected and suggested they find an exact car in the same condition and buy it for my wife. Obviously they refused, but did up the offer by a little bit more. We had no choice but to accept it.
An American friend once told me that some insurers in the states will actually search for as close a replacement vehicle they can find and offer up to 3 vehicles which you can choose from, and they buy it and deliver it to you. I would go with that!
The whole insurance business is a scam and is a licence to print money! I think every insurance company run to the same rules so I 'm afraid if you have not got an agreed value policy, the the value YOU attribute to the vehicle at the time of insuring it is not even considered.

I wrote off my Merc a few years ago and the insurance was great (for a change), they just looked at autotrader for the same car and spec in my area and offered me that amount, I bid a bit of a whinge about mileage (mine was below average) so they upped the payout. Can't remember who it was though.
