Just to update I've had the block done, oversize liners and 89mm pistons. The Yoshi cams are here too. The crankcase has been bored to suit. The Carillo's are on their way too, should be here within the next month. Apart from that progress is slow, Rog Upperton's had the head since last June, but he admits, as hes semi retired, it will be a while yet so, watch this space.
Well that's quite some progress in itself - will def be watching this space!!!
What capacity will that take it to? 1550 ish ?
seems like a nice project coming along nice .. be good to see the pic when you do have any :onya: we all like pic :clapping:
:useless:
very interested in this thread
may next winters upgrade to the 14

Hello Kja , glad to see you here and that your big bore project is going ahead
you been bothering stu again. Um 1692 turbo now there's a thought. A silly one I'll grant you
This is where I'll be going when lotto comes in... http://www.ptr.com.au/engine-packages/
Clearly it's significantly more expensive to get 160HP from a 14 than 240 from a b-king.

I think their dyno figures are somewhat optimistic for the B-King, Boris was up around the 180-185 bhp mark with his 1700 kit, which is none too shabby. It can be done a whole lot cheaper than the prices quoted too.

Not recently, spoke to him on FB a while back, its a bit of a trek to his workshop from north Lincolnshire tbh.

It is yes, ideally I'd have liked to have been further on with it, but I'm at the mercy of others so I have to be patient.
Theres progress, a photo of the head inlet stubs after machining...........
Not much I know, but its a start :)
Every adventure starts with a small step ;)
Hope to see the fruits of your trip soon :8:
Accompanied with a Dyno run print out ofcourse :smitten:
KJA, wish i could afford same. a great project mate. i will follow your posts. i would, if i had cash, love a 14 with 170 bhp. just something that needs to done without turbo.
Rog has done another head for John MacLean/Warpspeed, every trick in the book, big valkves 34mm inlets and 30mm exhaust valves, a comptetition port and flow, he says never again though, too much work.

Surely as he's done one it would now be easier and cheaper todo a second or third ?

I'm thinking he means the cost v any real gains, he's spent hours on it, literally, he reckons oversize inlets are possibly worth the hassle, not necessarily the exhaust valves. Will let you kno more when I see him next.
Had a delivery yesterday, the Carillo's are here.......
Oooof...Nice delivery kja :boogie:
stop and remove all these big bore post as everything is so tempting

You know it makes sense to do it, Seth :mwink:
You'll soon fall behind with a measly 130 Bhp
Kja, are there more parts ( except the head) you are waiting on?

if i did it would be internal mods.

I'm nearly there, just some high tensile cylinder studs and nuts and gaskets. I'm on with the gaskets though Cometic will make the head and base gaskets to suit, still sorting the details though. The only other task to have sorted before I start the build is I want the crank/rods/pistons balancing, I'm junking the balancer shaft, I've found a place to do it, just sorting the details at the moment.

Make sure that you'r high tensile bits and bobs are long enough, and that you cant torque them in oem specs (thread stripping is very forcefully present with em, aluminum block vs hardened steel). And if you are going for studs, you have to pull the engine out every time if you want to do something involving the removal of the valve head.
What comes to balancing and Carillos - you can forget about it, they are spot on. Mine had a minute differences with the j.p pistons, and by mixing and matching no balancing was needed.
I was talking to a guy yesterday, he said any gains would be minimal, its more about reliability though, I will possibly end up with the balance shaft back in and not bother with the lightening.
