Title: Lifting front end
Post by: ARH on Sunday, 01 April 2018, 06:55 PM
I know some of you are using all sorts of fancy wheel/bike lifts and jacks... but what else is being used to lift the front end of the bike to get the front wheel out?  I have a trolley jack but a bit fearfull of using that on the front end of the sump....

Trolley jack and timber under the pipes but I also use a rear paddock stand.

You probably have one in your car...... scissor jack and some bits of wood under pipes.
Used this morning, does the job  :onya:

...under frame. Never under exhaust pipes.

I used a block of wood built up on either end to support frame rails then used 2 scissor jacks to lift off the floor in conjunction with a paddock stand. I wouldn't support on exhausts..

I use a peace of 6x2 timber under centre stand then i use a small ratchet strap over my sport rack or thread through farme then find something heavy to put on the strap on the floor which will lift front end , once in the air i use two axle stands under the frame or some blocks of wood or what ever i have to hand .

Cheers all... have enough bits of wood lying about and will knock something together to support the frame.

2 ratchet straps,  one side attached to the bars, other end on the ceiling in hooks.
No pictures,  but you get the idea.

I don't "Eff" about when needing the front off the ground.
1. Bike on centre stand
2. Small scissor jack with block of pine on exhaust collector box !!
No problem at all with this because the "force" needed to raise the front when on the centre stand is sod all!

Its a bike..
Not a newborn baby !

Lifting front is easy, obviously many ways. I use small ropes from rafters to lift bars up away. Easy to remove top yoke, not in the way, just lower back into place.

Personally I'd invest in a set of BikeIt Headstock and Paddock stand set (you'll need to get an additional 23mm pin for the headstock stand) as in the longer term you'll find both very useful and an investment

I hate my front stand because it gets in the way when removing the front wheel so I hardly ever use it. As I posted earlier ... trolley jack & a piece of timber under the exhaust.

Abba stand and two car axle stands under the frame..One either side..
Bits of rubber mat on top so that they don't scratch the frame.
Used on my lads Bandit 600 in this photo with the centre stand..

Thanks to all for the replies.... wheels are now off.   Made up simple wooden blocks to support under the  frame on either side... solid as.   :onya:
