Aussies,,
Can you let me know -
what insurance value you have on your 1400,
how many kms it has,
and what company you are with.
I'm going to do some shopping around.
Ta.
I'm insured for market value for my K5, what ever that might be for a bike with 200k on the clock.
My green slip is with GIO @ $461.44
Comprehensive with Swann @ $265.07
Green slip? Is that third party personal insurance if you injure others etc?
That's included in the rego bill up here (not for free, of course).
Market value means bugger all (that is, a small number).
Usually new price less depreciation less whatever amount the insurance company decides they can get away with.
I prefer agreed value policies wherever possible, sure they still go down every year but at least there's a number attached to it so you know what you're up against.
I had my 1400 insured with Swann comprehensive at $231 a couple of years ago, I decided to come clean with what was on my bike and declared the Power Commander, insurance went up close to $500, I ended up with Alliance @$381 with power commander declared. If I had my time over I probably wouldn't mention the Power Commander under the seat.
So stupid that would change the premium. It's not as if it turns it into a GSXR thou....
The PC would be an easy thing to forget you had... ;)

Green slip is TPP ... third party property used to be part of your rego in NSW too. The insurance companies had a designated number that was on your rego papers. At least the way it is now you get to choose which company you want although I'm sure it was better back then.
As in, What's that? Never seen it before, what's it do? Must of been on the bike when I got it.
$252.86 with Youi. includes one breakdown tow. market value. QBE i think was 20 bucks cheaper but didnt bother. more for agreed value and riding gear. just play them against each other. no fan of insurance , still waiting on house repairs, nearly 2 months now. nothing has happened except a few engineers and builders quoting. third party property should be included in rego.
Maybe time to have someone stick them that the news channel who reported on your misery is planning a follow up.
Agree Andre. They dont like bad publicity.
Might even get some action ??
Yeah, im over it, just nothing happens. Ill ring again today, have contact for person in charge of our claim. One more chance. Very fair i think. If no good, will search out top management. If still nothing, has to be facebook or get tv crew back.
TV is better than FB as you can pretend to have nothing to do with it. Some insurance jerk might get the idea to make things even harder for you. Jerks can be easily offended and act to get back at you. My tip is to be very friendly and appreciative. Make them feel good and have others do the "dirty work" for you.
Be gentle as a dove and cunning as a snake.
learned that long ago. no harsh words have i spoken. today i contacted management. found out all my rites , tomorrow, will give girl handling my folder one more chance. no results, then i know procedure. im entitled for extra compensation for their slackness. dog with a bone now.
Market value on K6 with 40,000 kms through Swann (which includes $1500 cover for helmet and gear) $309.00
Wonder if they do NZ bikes?
KC if (insert any insurance company) aren't actually in NZ then they wouldn't.
My lot have upped my premiums, 1 little total loss claim & bang, they up your premiums! :whatever: It's only for 1 year though then it comes back to std. :boogie:
How did you get on with insurance Vlad. Just insured fully comp with Youi $253.
Had a claim with them when cyclone Marcia went thru Rockhampton. Lost the solar hot water system off the roof. They had a new system installed in 7 days. Actually before we got power back.
Bruce
Haven't shopped yet -premium with QBE isn't the issue I just wanted to assess how reasonable the insured value is.
How did you guys with Swann insurance get on? Want to change from AMII as they are very expensive and won't cover me if I respray anything.
I'll try Swann if they cover custom paint and if you guys have good reports.
The tank and plastics were resprayed badly by a previous owner and I want to redo the lot a colour more interesting then poorly painted gloss black.
Maybe a matte green and black style, not sure yet.
QBE & bike value.
"Agreed value" is only agreed for one year apparently, then they decide what its worth as 'agreed' for the next year.
On renewal QBE dropped my "agreed value" by well over $1000. Apparently they think I could replace my bike as it stands for $6K. They are wrong.
Anyway I rang them up and told them they were wrong, and had a discussion about 'red book' values not reflecting actual market prices.
They asked how much I wanted to insure for, and let me go to $8,000. Premium difference was only $25 / year.
So it pays to discuss with your insurer if not satisfied.
I was insured with Swann, I liked them @$270 a year a couple of years back, I couldn't get a better quote, decided to declare a PC3 and the premiums doubled or close to a little over $500, best I could find after that was QBE for $381, with hindsight I would've kept my mouth shut.
I'm with Swann @ $302.00, market value.
Have a guy who has dropped off his ute for an insurance repair to the front of it.
He says " make sure you get the right parts mate"
Me "No worries, got the rego number and chassis number, not a problem."
Him " you can see its got the wide guards, late model headlights and grille.and l'll get you to include the scratch on the door too"
So l start by asking if he has notified his insurance company of these modifications. ....... silence !!
So you are paying for the damage you did to the vehicle you ran into ?? I ask.
"Of course not" he says.
I then tell him to put the mags with the tyres that have legal tread depth back on."
Some people have no idea. He left to contemplate his next move.........
Swann have agreed to cover me for aftermarket paint if I select 'agreed value' and factor it into the cost myself. They were great to deal with!
About $400 a year for $7500 agreed value, and I'm 26.
Half the price of my current policy with AAMI.
Good to hear Dan :onya:
I use Youi, 270 for $7g, no riding gear included. I play them against QBE, they always beat each other with some sort of offer, free pizza, $20 off a bottle of wine, riveting stuff.
Hi Folks,
I am a newbie on this version of the GSX 14K group. I was a member of the defunct www.gsx1400.org.
I have a Special Edition all standard, insured with QBE. I am not happy with the market (agreed) value they proposed $5.9K. The premium is $276, no gear covered.
I looked at the market and no way I can buy another SE for 6K in the same state as mine. (40K in great conditions)
I rang QBE and proposed an increased "agreed" value to $8K and they just said "no". I said to them I will shop around, good luck, they reply.
Well, I had a quick chat with RACQ they said: 4.3K!!!! They recommended Famous.
I rang Famous and they dismiss me when I said I also use the bike for daily commuting. (Bad move?)
Well, it seems I have no option then to stick with QBE.
Does any one know of any better deal in regards to agreed value?
What make me concerned is that QBE is very quick to write off if the cost goes over something like 3-4K. (Easy if it involves tank and muffler)
I feel like not insured for an accident, even a simple fall, where the cost can easily goes over 2-3K. Am I exaggerating?
Cheers....
:welcome1:
To all things 1402
I can't help with your insurance question but good to see a returning lost soul from the old org . Glad you found us all.

Have you tried Shannon's ?
They have been very good customising a policy to suit what I wanted.
My 14 (Black K7/K8) Full system, PC111, is insured for a documented and confirmed AU$5000. I'm happy with that.
Not sure what it costs, I pay a bit over $2000 for multiple bikes.
Thanks Tony. I will try them and see how far I go.
:onya:
If you think yours is above what they think tell them. They seem open to variations.
Also try Swann insurance.

It seems that the quote for an $8K agreed value is going to be accepted by Swann and QBE is going to loose an 11 years loyal client?
See you later alligator... :hat:
It's a shame that's how it goes these days, being a long time customer counts for nothing. We become just a number & a cash cow. Quite often a brand new customer will get a better deal than one who'd been loyal for years.
Unfortunately it's all about hitting stupid targets, salespersons (very PC) are tasked with getting new customers so give them a better deal to come over to their company, they are not tasked with keeping loyal customers so no one tries. You would think that a known good customer with no claims would be a safeer bet.
Different product same problem.
Spark (telecom) is offering free Rugby World Cup coverage to new customers signing up for an unlimited broadband package.
We have unlimited broadband plans on rwo mobiles and our landline......l rang and they said only for new customers.
This week l hope to be another providers new customer......arseholes !!
jribeiro your QBE experience is different to mine which was as below

What year is yours? I assume must be same as mine - K7?
I'm 49 years old with a mixed crash history - I'm sure my premium will rise this year...
Rider age and history should only affect premium though, not insured value.
Mine has more kms on that yours too ~ 120K
oh and
(https://gsx1400owners.org/forum/gallery/0/1-041018134243.jpeg)
@Kiwifruit there is no loyalty anymore.   :frustrated: :whatever: :stir:
I just play QBE against Youi. Never tried Swann. $262 this year but im very old, maybe makes the diff. I also hate when new to service get more than loyal customers. Foxtel ive had 15 yrs, while back i rang, paying $20 more than new sign ups, i just kept at them, reduced price by $24, got Full HD, couple of useless channels. Yeah, was some make believe anger involved in calls. Happy with result.
OK well I paid my QBE premium (the amount they sent me a reminder for via SMS)
Get a call a few days later to say I haven't paid enough.
Long story short(er) they say they sent last years amount to me (by mistake) and I have to pay an EXYTRA $52.
Yep premium risen from $250ish to $300 ish in one year. What bullshit.
When I said so and that I'd shop around, they said "if we apply a condition at any rider must be over 30 years old) its a good saving. Yeah sure fine by me.
QBE sheila "Oh I've tried that but it doesn't come down any more. Maybe you already had it., I can't tell"
(Quality eh ::) )
Anyway I had the pay the difference to ensure insurance remains current, but am now looking around for options.
Want: Reasonable agreed value (say $8.5K), half decent premiums. and allowed as daily commuter.
Youi? Swann? Shannons?
Swann insurance, K3 1400 with non standard exhaust, 'bars and other minor mods. I.e i am open and honest with them. 5500 agreed value every year.
Ive got a pretty good history to date (as in no crashes or claims).
Renewal came in at 298. I did the online quote thing for the same and i came up 50 bucks less.rang up to query, only difference is the NCB protection.
They honoured the on line quote so renewed for 248. Thats pretty good in my books.
Youi is too expensive, same as Shannons. AAMI is ok but they dont know bikes, the others????
Swann. K6 market value with $1500 riding gear cover.
Only went up $2 this year too $304.
Maybe I was getting away with it really well last year then, and $300 for that agreed value isn't unreasonable...
shannons on a multi vehicle policy $365 so with GST and Stamp Duty it ends up at 442.35 Agreed Value $7,500, might look around next time
Yeah, definately get a quote of Swann Steve. They have always come in cheaper for me when I shopped around.
