Oil Consumption

Hi everyone,

just wondering what is your oil consumption per 1000km on your big 1402cc engines.
Asking to see if my ~0.4L at 3,843km is normal for its age.
K2 model.

Ah, well... I cannot say I am not jealous. You should be very proud of this engine condition King!

I got the bike with 53k KMs, not meticulously maintained, so I expect some consumption.
I also take her to the track, last weekend was her second time, so maybe that can be contributing to some consumption as well.
I'll post follow-up pictures of my 2nd track day in the existing thread as soon as I get them

But for this topic, I just want to gauge what is the expected oil consumption per 1000km!

0.0 l/km just like Chris, 55000km, engine with unknown history as im not the first owner. I dont spare the throttke either, sees redline once in a whike.  Recently had the rocker cover off for a valve clearance check, was like new inside.

The oil used makes a difference, a semi synthetic quality 10W40 and quality oil filter (hi flo, or mahle) and changes every 5000km.

Neither of mine use any either and the original was on 186k miles when last ridden.A mate's K5 I look after also uses zero oil.

None are ridden slow but nothing like track day use would be.

These are the first 3.8k kms ridden by me since the bike has been purchased, and I am planning to be changing the oil + oil filter religiously every 5k km, just like I did on my Bandit 650 (which also consumed 0 oil).

I have to say that I am really glad that your bikes are not burning any oil, especially with such high mileage engines, but I know that all engines are made to consume some oil over time. Within manufacturer acceptable limits.

So, for now, I will not panic with the 0.4L in 3.8k kms but I will be monitoring closely. Maybe I have some timing issues, meaning chain slack or valve out of spec. Haven't opened the rocker cover yet.

For reference I poured in 15W-50 Castrol Power 1 which is available here in Poland, same oil I was pouring in the Bandit. The bike is not being ridden in winters, due to the harsh weather and snow, so I went with a thicker viscosity.

Zero oil consumption for me too! Unlike my Mitsubishi ASX 1.8 TD with DPF: I pour in 4l and take out 5!! That´s right, 1 more. Effin DPF and short rides.

Used mine for several years. Like other big Suzuki's I can't remember needing to top up the oil between services.

If mine consumed oil I'd want to know what was wrong with it.

15W50 seems too thick to me, could explain the oil use, it would hang up in the cylinder bores and get burnt off.

If you are using the bike on the track, perhaps an ester based single weight racing oil (40weight) would be more suitable.

I don't need to top mine up and i don't measure the drainage quantity when i change the oil (annually).

Incidentally, i've always stuck to 10W40 semi, although my bike's hardly run in.

Yep, 10w/40 is spec, but there are other specs that are also suitable, just depends on the temp

.4 in 3800k is bugger all, especially being on race track.Change oil/ filter again, if it was me I'd use 10w40 semi synthetic,nothing to worry about really👍

Hey, just remembered Pete Snapey used to run diesel oil in his 14, was a beauty too, so just whatever ya want really.

Yup, diesel engine oil is high spec these days.  I use penrite HPR5 in the bmw, which is also a diesel oil, and JASO MA compliant ( jap spec for wet clutch motorcycles,). Can also run that in the 1402, but used to Synnex 3000 now.

45 yrs ago I worked for Budget rent a car. Huge fleet Oz wide, 600 in Brisbane. Mobil Delvac, diesel oil, was used in all makes after 1st service.We had a Commodore that missed every service, 56th k same oil, topped up a few times I guess. Motor was still fine. Picture is Toyota Prado never serviced 90 th ks, what a mess
