Hi All,

Finally realised I hadn't introduced myself! I'm old, That's my excuse.

Picked up a 2007 just over a year ago. She had been parked in the outside here in WA for some time. The sun damage and corrosion is pretty severe and the lcd screens were/are sunburnt.

The engine runs sweet and she's only done just over 26,000 km so I though it worth restoring her. Since then I have spent a small fortune on parts, tools, tyres etc.

It's a long term project and I look forward to the day I roll her out the garage for the first run. I am mechanically minded not a mechanic. Learning as I go and loving every minute.

I have already got a lot of help from the GSX1400 community so thanks to those guys.

I have only been back riding bikes for about 5 years. Had an accident in 1988 (RD250LC). Met the wife and swapped the bike for her. Cut to 30 years later. She's gone bikes are back and it's sooo much more quiet!

Thanks

Mark

Morning, that looks a pretty typical old ignored 14 bar the clocks. I've not see that before, but then you lot talk about this 'sun' thing that us Poms never experience.

Better late than never Mark. Welcome to the nuthouse.
You've definitely got a lot of work ahead of you.
They're a great bike though and worth the effort and time.
30 years of no riding ?

Gidday Mark, welcome to the forum. Sounds like you've got rid of 1 handful & swapped it for another . . .  :rofl2:   Bit of work to do on the ole girl, but, if you say it runs ok, maybe it's mostly cosmetic, I'd still replace the chain & overhaul the callipers though.  Bearing front & rear & a bit of grease into the stem, gonna keep you busy for a while.

Cheers.   :onya:
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Hello from the UK.

Looks like a good solid bike and should look like a new un when you've had a play with it.

Looking forward to seeing the result.

Isn't that what marriage means?

I disagree.
In my case : Parenthood pauzed biking a few years. Mainly due to the sleepless nights our new inhabitant caused. Longest uninterupted sleep we had was 90 minutes max.  :embarrassed: not good for your span of attentions.

Welcome mate, which part of WA?

Its kind of asking which part of Europe for our up-over brethren, as the state spans roughly 2,420 km (1,500 miles) from north to south and 1,680 km (1,040 miles) from east to west.

If your in Perth, happy to help out if you need, i have a bike hoist and most tools. reach out if you need.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Hi Eric,

Yep I'm in Perth. Carramar just north of Wanneroo. Thanks for the offer. I bought a bike lift for this project. I worked on my Yamaha V Star 950 without one and these old knees did not like it!
As I said I'm still learning so I will need some more advice. I'm also in the GSX1400 Australian Owners Group on Facebook. Name: Mark Johnson. I spend way more time on there than here.
