Australia's cricket team just sealed the Ashes test cricket series 4-1 in Sydney today and have retained the trophy of an urn containing a burnt set of bails.
It's been a month long series of 5 games. Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
Played mostly in the spirit of cricketers passed, with a little bit of spite here and there.

It's been a long hot summer for the Poms, a lot of whom aren't born England.

Maybe next time lads 👍👍

Probably a few northerners Chris but theyll be quiet about it😂😂 Labelled hopeless by opponents before series started.4-1 not bad for hopeless team.

I've never really understood the game or had any interest in it. In fact, I get a bit frustrated about the amount of media coverage it gets, particularly by the BBC.

Back in my working days, in an office with about 100 staff, there would probably be about 2 guys who would have a radio on quietly during a "significant" cricket match. I comparison, if the England football team were involved in a World Cup match during office hours, the management would allow portable TVs to be bough in and two hours down-time. This was to counteract the fact that the switchboard would otherwise be inundated with staff (mostly men) calling in sick.

All of the banter on a Monday morning concerned Aston Villa, Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion and Wolves and a few odd types mentioned Coventry City. Warwickshire Cricket Club was never mentioned.

Don't quote me on this, but I think I read somewhere that Solihull Barrons Ice Hockey team got bigger attendances than a cricket match at Edgbaston.
I don't doubt that there are parts of England where Cricket is appreciated more, but in my circles it just doesn't factor.

The problem with all sport is that it is now nearly all behind subscription paywalls and inaccessible unless you are prepared to throw £30 a month at it. This has to stifle the amount of new younger fans taking an interest. At least we get free-to-air football and Formula 1 highlights as long as you can dodge the results for the day.

I've never understood or cared for cricket. But unlike chavball it's not actively annoying & so overhyped it annoys the hell out of me.

They still using sandpaper on the ball Chris or does that not matter if you're bowling underarm  ??  :stir:

Crickets make good bait for trout fishing...
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

No Col pretty sure they pat down the players before they take the field since that debacle. How Dave Warner is still playing is anyone's guess. I think Steve Smith has redeemed himself 🙏

Underarm as I know hasn't been made illegal even since Trevor bowled it as instructed by his brother the Captain of the Australian team at the time.
Will NZ ever get over that ?
