Recommendations for adding pannier racks and moving rear indicators

Hello Everyone,

I believe I stumbled across a unicorn while doing some research into pannier options for the 14. I have a set of Givi PL537 racks on route as I type this. :)

Question - have seen from various online sources images of the stock rear indicators moved to be mounted on the rear Givi rack (as a rod in the pannier rack system need to be inserted through the holes where the two indicators are mounted), BUT I haven't been able to find any instructions for how to implement the indicator repositioning. Can anyone point me in the right direction or spec out how its done.

Would also possibly be interested in recommendations for aftermarket indicators if they worked at least as well as the OEM, but were a little more svelte.

Rear indicators mount through the plastic of the rear guard, backed up by a locknut on the inside. Surely if you drilled a pair of matching holes lower this would allow you to mount both the rack and the factory indicators.  Mounting them on the rack means you need longer wires, and the factory ones are already short, plus then the rack cannot be removed easily if need be.

Try a set of led indicators, plenty to choose from, I've currently got Stedi.com.au led waterfall units on my '03 1402.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

I got some aftermarket indicators & drilled new holes in the mudguard. It's no good repositioning the originals on the guard as they are too long & would end up inside the pannier, if that makes sense. I just cut & extended the wires from the indicators, so I can solder new indicators on the original leads & the loom on the bike is untouched.

To clarify I meant the mud guard, not the tail piece.  Same as Hooli I added wire to the factory connectors to give a bit more length to those wires, they were tight in their original routing.

Hi J. Got the same, had small brackets in the kit for the indicators to bolt to the base plate.

Wow, thanks for all the super fast responses and advice. Very much appreciated.

One other contributing issue I forgot to mention is that the previous owner (or the one before that) did a mud-guard-ectomy with a hacksaw, so my mudguard finishes about 2cm below the bottom edge of my number plate. :( I will go out and check tomorrow, but I am not sure that I will be able to mount any indicators low enough on the guard to still clear the panniers, unless the aftermarket ones stick out much less?

May just need to mount the racks when they get here and then figure it out from there. :) Thanks again.

My aftermarket indicators stick out less than the pannier frames, I mounted them higher than the originals but just (& I do mean just due to a slight mistake) low enough the luggage hooks still have room to swing out.

I'd post a pic but the Givi hasn't been fitted for a few years now so it won't help much.

I went to LED indicators at the same time, if you do you'll need a new flasher/starter relay (same unit) as well unless you want to bugger about with resistors in the wiring. The relay was about £7 on ebay so much easier to do.

Pretty sure the indicator brackets came with the PL537 kit.

Yeah the brackets came with mine when I got it. They make handy bungee hooks if you don't hang the indicators on them. Means anything you strap on the backseat stays snug against the topbox & doesn't move as you ride.

Looking at them, I'd say you could make up some brackets using a bit of angle iron & a couple of well placed holes & a bit of a cut out here & there.

You could, they are no more than that with the edges rounded off to make them pretty. From memory the indicator holes are slightly behind the mounting holes for the brackets.

This thread has reminded me. I need to strip my Givi stuff down & send it for powder coating as a mate can get it done for free. I don't have it on the bike anymore but it'd be nice to have it tidy in case I decide to use it.
