In my experience, tyres that work (or not) on one bike can be brilliant (or not) on another. I had Michelin PR5's on my Triumph when I owned it and they were brilliant, no wear issues at all - yet the original front Metzeler Tourance tyre it came with as OEM from the factory had lost all tread on the RH side by just 2,250 miles and had to be replaced. I'm currently running Michelin Road 6's on my GS and getting excellent mileage from them also.

What works on one, may not on another.

Tyres these days though in general are not cheap whichever make you go for!!!!

Just re-read this article which is as true now as it was when it was first published https://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=5909.0

Quote from: KiwiCol on Wednesday, 31 May  2023, 05:51 AMJust looking at one of your other posts Simon, you said your bike was sat for 5 years prior to you getting it, so just wondering how old those tires on it are?  Could be down to old rubber as well.   Be interesting to see the date code.

Col,
Checked the date stamp yesyerday and its the 25th week of 2018 !

5 Years, not horrendously bad.  Prob getting near for a change if it hadn't scalloped anyway, eh.

Totally agree Col..
Just waiting for my Bike tyre place to source a rear Avon Storm 3DXM.. Hes got the front in stock..
Like most things British that were good Avon have apparently been taken over by Goodyear (apparently) and are to move the production the France (I think)..
The Storm is being ceased.. Thats a pity as it got very good reviews and was a fair bit cheaper that Michelin.

All tyre companies globally entangled with share holdings in each other. Similar to auto industry as a whole. The big companies keep getting bigger 💰💰💰

Best allrounder I've ever owned 👍

I had a search on cupping/ scalloping. Road camber sure is one problem, just how it is. Other cause, tyre bouncing on road, tiny but causes it. Just me but, that means perfect fork oil, weight and condition.  Springs need to be set, otherwise bounce, thats a normal. Less than more spring load. Rebound settings the most important they keep the tyre in contact with road. MCN settings very harsh, reckon no chance for tyre to survive. Mine was all set up for me, initially i thought way too soft, after a few rides, much more enjoyable and sure can notice front tyre just sticks to road. My front tyre lasted a long time, cupped towards end, 18 th ks. No dive, no pogo stick, much better. My 2 bobs worth.

I will be having the Avon Storm 3DXM fitted front and rear on Wednesday..
I shall report how I find them.

Hooli

Got them on two of my bikes, love 'em. Ride better and outlast so called better makes.

The other two have Avon Cobras, well the HD has the newer cobra chromes.

Can you tell I'm an Avon fan? I really hope they aren't ruined when production goes abroad

T250

Also got them on a couple of bikes  :onya:

Never tried modern Avons, will see prices against Pirelli next set. I remember back early 70s, not a lot of choice then. Slippery Jap tyres, Bridgestone, Inoue, Yokohama. Dunlop were best,K81/ TT100 from memory. Avon were a big choice, rear used to wear to totally flat across. No idea why but sure was a ride on the edge. Cant rem if anyone used European tyres, Pirelli, Michelin etc. They all used to wear out so quick, bad on our 750s then Z1 came along. We rode one weekend and mate wore his out in 2 days. Much improved these days. My first two GT750 came with Inoue from new, just go and rub grease on your current tyres, about the same. Two front discs, no tyre grip, was fun. Hope im not boring you Blokes.

My 14 runs on Avons, love em.  Made just down the road, it's a shame the factory is closing.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick
