Am I right in thinking we've got a few members who've bought replacement lock sets off ebay?

Any feedback on them? I'm looking at this example https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204207764347

I'll try local breakers too, but I suspect I'll need to buy new to get matching keys unless the breakers do a complete lock set.

 Correct.

Everything fits but not all works.

Seat lock is ok
Fuel cap is okay-ish. ( low quality bolts and overall finish )

The ignition switch plugs in but "on" is "park"
"park" only turns the lights on.
No combo worked to get the ignition on.
Repinning is needed.

As only my ignition switch was faulty i got one from a sv1000 from the same era and matched that to the rest.

If sv1000/650 and maybe bandit use the same lock sets
(Main thing would be the ignition plug but id be very suprised if they are different)
Then several used uk bike sets for well under £100 and are genuine suzuki bits
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

Cheers @Blubber sounds like more hassle than it's worth.

I was leaning towards genuine anyway, but figured it was worth asking in case anyone had used these & they were great.

To finish this thread off, I got a complete lockset off a local breaker for £108. For entertainment value I tried my old key in it & it only works! so I'll only need to fit the ignition & still have a single key for everything. You've got to love worn out Suzuki locks eh? the new key doesn't fit the existing locks on my bike though, as they aren't as worn as the ignition.

I'll fit the lock tomorrow, it'll take longer than normal as I'll have to helicoil the holes in the top yoke after the old switch was smashed out, but I've got the stuff for that. While the front is apart I'll hammer the steering lock 'socket' on the frame back into shape so it works as well as before. It's better than nothing at least, but I will be carrying a disklock in future.

@Hooli I think i might have an early top yoke, i'll have a look in the garage tomorrow and get back to you and let you know either way.

Hooli, any disc lock that works? I have Master chain, lock n ground bracket for home, 2 minutes wrecked they say, Master disc lock, 2 minutes with easy out   Hiplock D1000 hoop lock seems best.

@Hooli
Is this what you need? let me know and i can send it off to you.

Hooli

Thanks @Milts but I've reused my old one. The bolts holding the ignition in weren't as long as the holes so with a little cleaning of the thread I've put longer bolts in this time & it's secure. I had about 1/2" of thread to play with below the damaged part, so plenty to hold it together.

No problem pleased you got it sorted  :onya:
