Reminds me of a work van the driver before me had never booked in for service, sixty thou miles on the clock & when they tried to change the oil there was so much sludge nowt came out....

Oddly enough it drove a lot better afterwards.

It's funny how new engine oil will do that. When I was 19 I had Hardtop Falcon it used so much oil it was like a constant top up so other than changing the filter I just topped it up over and over and over. I crashed it into a stationary vehicle, actually not my fault when I was 20.
You live and learn. I didn't own another car until I was 34. It was motorcycles or nothing for 14 years.
