Is it normal?

I rode to work and back today.... only about 20 miles round trip. I'm still getting used to the bike, and its lovely to ride, but there is a fairly loudish sound from the front... best described as a kind of induction sound? just checking if this is normal?

Sorry.... coming off a Harley you get to question every sound!

Maybe it's the oil cooler fan kicking in.
Don't know how it would be hot enough though.

You shouldn't hear anything like that. Start with the easiest things first. Check the front wheel is free running and without any side to side play when off the ground. Anything rubbing on it, the brake pads touching the discs or worn bearings can sound like induction noise. Also, if you have a screen fitted check it's not wind noise coming from that. Process of elimination from there on checking all nuts, bolts and cables are not vibrating including the front disc bobbins. If the oil fan is on then you would see it moving when stopped and the noise would persist. If it's engine related you should hear it when you increase the revs in neutral. As stated it's a process of elimination. Oh yeah, it's not your helmet causing  the noise is it? Years ago my mate got a new helmet and thought his bike had started to make strange sounds at certain speeds😂🤣😂

Left Field i know. I chased a noise in mine for ages once. Turned out LH mirror was vibrating, glass in metal. It was bloody loud, stock mirrors. Bar ends solved that prob.

@Big Phil - I know what you mean about the helmet, i've had that before lol. It's not that though. Might be brakes? I have a bellypan fitted too, so i'll check that as well. I couldnt hear it when stationary and revving, so i'm guessing it must be a vibration thing then? I'll let you know how i get on. thanks.

Not the fuel pump in the tank is it? those whine when the filters are getting blocked, I've never heard one on the move though.

no i dont think so. its less of a whine, and more like a sucking sound... hard to explain.... a bit like slurping the last bit of drink through a straw lol

Im guessing wind noise, buffeting from something. Screen, helmet ?

I'm thinking windnoise too. It isnt the helmet, and i dont have a screen.
If it is windnoise, I can live with it until i isolate what it is.... just really checking that it isnt anything serious I guess. I didnt notice it at all on Sundays rideout though, which is odd. I'll check everything is tight at the front, first. see if something has worked loose maybe?

Spb2002 is that a mesh screen on your bellypan, if so that could be the source of your whistling as the air passes through it , the faster you go the noisier it gets, just my penny's worth

Thats not a bad shout actually! yes, it is a mesh, didnt think about that.

I know why i didnt hear it at the weekend, btw.... i was following my mate with loud exhausts!

Well, I've not found the location of the 'wind noise'... but I took the baffles out of the Exhausts at the weekend, and i can barely hear it now.

Not the right solution, but certainly A solution. Bike sounds lovely now, btw
