Hi All,

I am sure a lot of you will already know about this but...

I have recently bought WD40 in a 5 litre can and then dispense it into a small "plant sprayer" type bottle.
It works out MUCH cheaper this way.
Its one of the best (and kindest to paint) chain grease cleaners for wheels etc.
I just spray onto a rag and then rotate the wheel whilst holding the rag against the rims.

Recently I converted form using chain wax to a heavy "140" gear oil for my chain due to the large amount of wax build up around the engine sprocket area..
In fact I recently renewed the swing arm bearings and fitted a grease nipple and the massive amount of chain grease all over the rear of the engine / swing arm made me convert to gear oil.
I was a big fan of the Wax type lube because it resisted flinging onto the rear wheel... BUT it absolutely caked everywhere else.
With the swing arm removed I decided to give the areas a bloody good clean..
Brake cleaner wasn't that good, as it evaporated too quickly before penetrating the wax!
The WD40 was MUCH better!!
When you have it on supply in bulk you can really soak the parts that need cleaning and agitate with a paint brush.

For cleaning brake callipers its fantastic.. Obviously remove the pads first, then remove the callipers from the fork leg so they can be rotated and spray the pistons liberally and again agitate with a brush..
The grime comes away very easily..
Its very paint friendly (but if your paranoid you can spray the brake cleaner after using the WD40).
Again I find brake cleaner evaporates too quickly and leaves a white stain on the calliper paint..

I suppose the point of this post is to say that when you have bought WD40 in bulk then you tend to find uses for it because the cost isn't so much of an issue.

Hope this is a useful post,

S

Speedy, very useful for those that dont know. 👍I also clean chain with it, very easy. Gear oil my choice as well.

Its good good stuff alright Speedy. Don't know if the formula has ever changed over time but years ago a mate was having a sense of humour failure because he couldn't get his Lancia to start. I saw a can of WD40 on the shelf, l said air filter off and squirt it down the carb. That car started straight away. Dad used it as engine start when he was racing hydroplanes.
I have bought it in 5L packs for years, use it nearly every day
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Absolutely agree with the cleaning capabilities of WD40. Here is a picture of my 1999 750 SRAD front brake calipers. This bike is over 20 years old, covered 27,000 miles and has had, until recently, a very unloved life. I removed the calipers (which looked awful and I was certain they would need to be repainted) and left them to soak in WD40 for 2 days then washed them in detergent. They certainly don't look bad now next to the brand new EBC discs. Marvellous stuff👏👏👏👏

It's also very good at lifting oil stains from fabric, I used to use it to remove kids finger marks from the headlining in cars

Another use for it...... our previous property had very dark charcoal, nearly black aluminum joinery, ranch sliders, window and door frames. Over time they had gone quite milky.
So thinking l had nothing to lose l squirted WD40 on a rag and wiped them down. They came up looking brand new and stayed looking that way for ages. Got a gold fridge sticker from management for that one  :onya:
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

I've posted previously that I use WD-40 as chain lube. 80k/km on the original Chain & sprockets.
May the sun be warm & shining and your roads be smooth & winding.

Not at all Col. Shiny and just no residue. Hard to believe, a shit box Mits Sigma. He wins prizes at car shows. Who would ever have thought possible. Terrible cars.
