Hi, The insurance for my 14 is due at the end of the month and as I didn't ride for some years I am now eligible for a massive 1 years NCB.

No problem getting quotes for the 14 but I am also going to insure my GSXR750 SRAD at the same time. Again no problem with getting quotes although I have found they are much cheaper separately than on multi bike types. My question is am I correct in thinking you can only use your NCB on one policy? Also, what do others on here do when insuring two or more bikes?

Hooli

Correct you can only use your NCD once, but some companies will 'mirror' it.

I'm multibike with carole nash, not the cheapest way of doing it but I get the EU breakdown & stuff that works on bikes this old & has got me back from abroad before. Plus having been with them years & got full NCD I get £15k fully comp on my riding other bikes extension which is nice to have just in case.

Big Phil

Thanks Hooli that confirms what I thought. I will call a few companies and see what the best deal I can get with a multi-bike policy. So far I have only got on-line quotes.

Hooli

I think your GSXR is quite old too? I know over 10 years old is a modern classic with a lot of places, which comes out cheaper than a normal quote. It's how my 14 has been done for years with CN.

I had a similar problem when I had my Blade & `12. Can`t recall who was with at the time (possibly Bennetts) and they ceased offering multi-bike policies which kinda left me in the lurch. Anyhow, long story short I suggest you call insurers and explain your position (as I did). I was surprised how helpful they were! Its a common issue. My mate who has a garage full of Kawa Triples only ever insures two each `season` and does it by implementing the following method. I think all the rest are linked to his house contents insurance!

In the end it was suggested to me the best way of doing it was to insure one bike as the main ride, and piggy-back the second on a separate policy. It worked well for me. Word of advice though - be careful which of your two bikes is chosen as your `piggy-back` bike `cause that can make a heck of a difference to the two combined costs!

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Try RH insurance of Swindon, formerly ERS classic bike insurers. Got multi policy with them for my RD's and 1400. Built NCB up on 1400 and a couple of my extra bikes are only a £1 a year!!! ;) ;) ;)

Hi All, thanks for all the advice and suggestions. After all my time spent getting on-line quotes I finally called my insurance company Bennett's. Spoke with a really friendly and helpful guy and ended up with a multi-bike quote of £235 fully comprehensive, £500 excess, pillion passenger, legal expenses and European riding. I already have cover for breakdown with the RAC as I get it free as a perk on my personal bank account. As I only have 1 years No Claims Bonus and comparing it to the on-line quotes I was getting this was very competitive. Took 15 minutes on the phone to sort it and make the payment. Wish I had just called them in the first place instead of spending hours trawling the internet🙄

Hooli

Daft thing is, if you hadn't got the other quotes they'd have tried to charge you more.

Big Phil

That's true Hooli hadn't thought of that.

I read something recently (to sound really boring & dull it was in the IAM mag) that new Financial Conduct Authority rules planned, won't allow insurance companies to overcharge existing customers compared to new customers. Which might cut down on this every year if we're lucky.

I got my renewal for 1 of the bikes last week from MCE insurance and it's dropped from £157 to £107 so not even bothering questioning it just going to renew it.

My bikes went up £40 this year, but I got the car down by £120 in the same month.

Due to COVID - our mandatory insurance is giving back up to 20% of our premiums - less on the road and fewer accidents! Its a first! :boogie:
I need to go somewhere I've not been but won't know until I get there!

It's always worth picking up the phone and having a conversation with someone if your situations is a bit complicated.

I had a problem the year before last when I handed in my company car as the tax was getting ridiculous. Having bought my own I was then faced with starting from scratch with the insurance and a zero no claim discount. A quick call to Carol Nash and they agreed to factor in my motorcycle insurance record with a "six-wheel" policy which made it all reasonably affordable.

Just renewed the 2nd gsx1400 insurance in the UK.
MCE again as it has dropped from £150 last year to £107 this year same fully comp cover .
I did try carol nash  to see what they wanted for the same fully comp cover.
They started at £220 and did come down to £147 so I stayed with MCE for another year .
