Torque wrenches

Hi, it's that time of year again when I get my sock draw replenished. However, this year I fancy something a bit different from Santa. I've never owned or used a torque wrench, but now I have my new baby I would like to try and do my repairs on her properly. Is there any torque wrenches that you guys would recommend for use on the gsx? Would 1 do all jobs or would I need a couple of wrenches to cover all of the specs on her? Tia

I think you will need a couple as you need to span 5 newtown metrics to 120.  The best thing to do is get a 1/2" drive 20 -150 and a 1/4" drive 5 - 25.  Halfords make pretty good ones and if you have a trade card (easy to get) there will be a decent discount on them.

If you want top quality, go for something like Norbar torque wrenches, sometimes there are some good deals on eBay. But in all honesty Halfords own make are good quality wrenches, you won't go far wrong with those

Or the Teng Tools 1/4" drive up to 25Nm is another quality bit of kit.

If budget allows, go for a torsion beam torque wrench,  slightly more accurate than the usual spring tension variety.

Eric, just last week looking at Teng 3/8 Torque Wrench, workmate has one. Work perfectly. Repco sell Mechpro brand, i reckon they are the same thing. We compared, slight diff but so similar. Teng $130, Mechpro $40. Im happy with the cheaper. My 1/2 inch, Britool, yrs old, cost me $400 when i earnt $200. Been a great tool.

Fully agree. It pays to shop around.

My Teng 25Nm cost me $75 off ebay. My larger no name brand  one goes to 150Nm and I've had that for about 20 years, that reminds me i must recalibrate that one.

I was just using my 'no name brand' 1/2 drive the other day and thinking that I really do need to get a smaller one as well, but dismissed the idea due to cost.

Is 3/8 the right size down is it?  I have a socket set and I have 1/2" and what I had assumed were 1/4" but perhaps the standard is 3/8" ?
How would I check?

Yeah torsion beam versions are nice BUT all those I've seen are significantly more expensive too.
