Hi, well it's been 7 years since I last had my old 1999 GSX750 SRAD on track and unfortunately 7 long years since she was last started 😔 So having found my love for bikes again and having more spare time these days I have decided to try and get her up and running again. Needs new rotors and full brake service as well as new fork seals. Probably due a new chain and sprockets as well. First thing take the spark plugs out and feed some oil into the cylinders for a good soak. Gonna have to clean out the fuel system as well before I crank her over. Hopefully a labour of love ahead of me😍

Milts

Let's hope she forgives you!

My dear old SRAD is already getting her own back Milts. Just removed the tank and OH MY GOD petrol really does go off and actually smells like something from a cess pit 🤢🤮

So after many hours and a good few of Elizabeth's pounds being spent, My SUZUKI 1999 GSXR 750 SRAD is back on the road with an unblemished MOT🤗

I didn't realise that she had actually been left idle for TEN YEARS which is shameful and I hold my head down in shame.

This is what I have had to do to get her road worthy:
Petrol tank flushed and debris, rust and other shit removed.
New fuel pump, brake calipers both front and back refurbished.
Braided brake lines fitted
New fork seals, dust caps and fork oil.
New indicators.
New engine oil and filter.
Radiator flushed, then flushed again and again and again before refilling with anti freeze.
Loads of other parts cleaned meticulously and then lubricated where appropriate.
I now have a track day, road legal bike to cherish
As well as my drop dead gorgeous Suzuki GSX1400 that has white wheels. What else is there?
Happy days

What else?   A beer or 3 mate!!   Well done for getting it back . :onya:

Batkwaka

I have an '01 GSXR1000 which I was repairing. After it lunched the new fuel pump I got the shits with it and haven't looked at it in about 3 years.
May the sun be warm & shining and your roads be smooth & winding.

Big Phil

Tell you what Batkwaka I can only say the sense of pride and joy you feel when getting an old bike up and running again is amazing. My old SRAD is no looker and very rough around the edges but mechanically she is now in great shape. It's amazing the love I now have for her after all those years of neglect. Honestly, get your Gixxer going again and you won't regret it for a minute.

Agree Phil, sure gives pride in work. Back in early 80s, bought gs1000g, it was tarnished, been crashed, tank was huge dented. Black n Orange, no one wanted it. Every part was neglected but still saveable. Low ks, but a mess. Lots of work, blew out tank dent, was told not possible to save, painted, polished, frame all checked. Marzocchis fitted front and rear. One off exhaust made, sounded unreal, still one of the best sounders. Rode it for 80 th ks, superb bike. Wish i had a b4 photo.

So I ordered a set of iridium plugs and a new air filter for the SRAD and enjoyed a good few hours fitting them and messing about with the bikes. I know I could of done this in 30 minutes but hey ho what else is there to do right now? Unfortunately, having completed the job and running the old girl around the block to check she was running well, which she was. I noticed one of the 4 tank rubber supports was missing and no sign of it anywhere. No problem I thought, buy one off eBay😳

FECKING HELL!!!!  Anyone got an idea where I can buy a single one or even a new set at a reasonable price? Alternatively has anyone got an idea of a suitably cheap replacement?

Hooli

As soon as you buy them the old one will turn up. I had to replace one on my 14 & as soon as I got home to fit it I saw the old one on the floor in the garage I'd searched a dozen times.

Big Phil

That's exactly what I'm worried about Hooli. It's like there is a hidden agenda against people tinkering with their bikes. Why can't we just lose a screw or bolt that's apparently worthless and easily replaced? Not a fecking chance, we lose a seemingly nondescript item that always turns out to be made of extremely rare and extraordinary valuable exotic metal or otherwise best known to others as steel or rubber  😤 I am going to take the fairings off and search the garage floor before I buy a replacement. It's futile I know as it will only reappear once I've paid £40 for a bit of rubber with a slot in it😤😤😤😤😤😤

Big Phil

Ha! Will order a strip of this or similar and cut a groove if I don't find the original. Job done with enough to spare for future losses on an industrial scale🤗

Phil, have a look at a Kawasaki parts fiche (Fowlers of Brizzle have them online).  When I was looking for seat rubbers for my spare 14 seat I found them at £7 each for Suzuki and £3 for Kawasaki.  No prises for guessing which ones I fitted.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick
