Can't place it either, but recall a mod on the seat latch that involved a spring to hold the seat up after unlocking.  You got one of those Notty?  Had the seat off lately?

Don't ride your bike without this spring fitted.  It's the reverse clinch throbatron valve return spring, essential for smooth running, refit it immediately.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

I was going to say it was the spring from the seat latch mod...

It's a spring fitted to the seat latch so that when you turn the key to unlock the seat, it pops up a bit (because of the spring) enabling you to grab the seat with 1 hand whilst the other is on the key.

Makes it easier to get the seat off.

Whats the point in that? the seat is never a problem to take off anyway.

VladTepes

Yeah that's what I was wondering.

Enables one-handed seat removal - e.g. when you have stuff in one hand you don't want to put on the ground - just turn key, seat pops up and can use the same hand to remove.
I found it useful!
Others may not... :hat:
