it was all my fault, when out with m8 with salt on the road a while back and chain etc got so rusty-tried to unrust but a few links iffy . Got a mobile guy to replace the chain and sprockets - so do I go for a different setup than basic? 17T would make the bike accelerate faster? anything else needs to be done whilst he is here? he quoted £45 labour ...going for DID gold - silent front sprocket  :)

The problem with retirement is that you cant take a day off

Remembering if you change the sprocket your Speedo will read wrong .
But a 17 makes them very quick off the mark .
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

Yep, the speedo (and odo) will read approx 5% faster / further than it does already.  They're 6 - 6.5% too fast as standard, so the 17 tooth front makes them read about 11.5% faster than a gps speed.

It's not just off the mark either, any gear, side by side comparison, the 17 front accelerates the quicker. You will loose a bit of top end, but how often would you go over 220kph anyway?  Makes it a bit more 'lively' if you like.

sounds like a plan - top end is of no interest for me - I have tried to go flat out but horizon goes blurred and my arms seemed 6 inches longer ( private road of course )  :)
Will go for silent front 17T - any recommendations on manufacturer?

Ognibene or JT are both decent quality .

Bike torque racing on Ebay was recently the cheapest for my silent 18T JT front sprocket... about a tenner of your sterlings
Wreck-it Richard - one of the unDutchables

I can't see the point, there's a lever under your left foot if you want it to rev more. I'd say these are one bike where the gearing is just about right from the factory.

gsxbarmy

Read this - yes I know it says 19T but it also covers 17T

Personally I'd stick to a standard setup but everyone to their own
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

]I'm going to put a 19 tooth sprocket on the tuned bike .
It accelerates very well as is and the Speedo will be much closer all the time plus on long runs on ECT the cruising revs will be lower at the same speeds we sit at now .

Mobile guy coming to house tomorrow - as we are self isolating just leave the bike on the drive -
chain
sprockets
sprocket carrier bearing
wheel bearings

£60 which I think is reasonable for fitting, :)
of course the bummer is I can't give it a ride  :bugga:
