Brembo rear again.

Hey guys, following on from my post about fitting a Brembo rear caliper to my 14. I've since bought a gixer slingshot with Ducati front and rear end. The rear is single sided, Brembo's all round and while the front brakes are excellent the rear is the poorest brake I've ever had on a bike. I've been on several forums and most folk are saying the same thing, so I won't be fitting one onto my 14 any time soon. Apart from the fact I'd have to get a custom made bracket I don't think it's worth the aggro. When I got the gixer the rear brake was non-existent, so took it off, checked the pistons,  all good, seals are fine, new SBS pads, Braided line and banjo bolts, new master yet still crap. You've really got to stamp on the pedal to get any retardation, or in laymans terms, getting the son bitch to stop, and it feels like I've got two blocks of wood in there not decent pads. It wouldn't bleed either but sussed that, (The bleed nipple is at the bottom of the underslung caliper) Easy fix, slide the caliper round the disc to the top so the nipple is then at the top. Took seconds to bleed then. Some guys on these forums were even saying " Oh the rear brake is just to stabllize the bike when coming into a corner and not really needed" Think they were talking about race bikes or they work for Ducati. Anyone come across this problem before ? I've worked and built bikes all my days and not had this problem before. Thanks for any advise, cheers $

Steve, only thing i know was rear brake on Ducati Diavel i was looking after, was just what you said, crap. Fronts superb but that rear just didnt work. Bike only 17ks so doubt it was faulty. My original 14 rear wasnt much good. Tried EBC sintered, was no better just noisy. Fitted Metal Gear rotor n pads, brilliant brake.

Hi Grog, yea someone did mention the same solution as you come to think about it. Shouldn't be like that though surely. I'll look into getting one of those discs you mentioned, thanks bud, $  Just noticed you're in OZ, Can't seem to find any metal gear discs in the UK. Anyone have a link for them here ? thanks.

Try Ebay UK. But it all ships from Australia.

I guess I must just be lucky, I've heard of all the bad things about Brembo rear brakes but I have t say the rear brake on my 1200 Ducati Monster is superb, plenty of power and if the abs didn't stop it I'm sure I could lock up the back wheel with ease.  In fact I have two bikes with Brembo brakes (Ducati and BMW) and they are both excellent.   Hope you sort yours out soon.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick
