Hi

Does anyone remember a bike magazine doing suspension settings for the 14 ?
When I owned my original 14 back in 2001 I'm "pretty sure" the suspension settings came from a magazine like Ride etc and not MCN.  But im possibly remembering wrong 👴

The bike handled great on the twisties and was perfect all the way to Paris and bike. Love to set up my new bike the same way.

Cheers

Here ya go Graeme, it's on our site under suspension, just click on the below link & it'll take you right to it, however it is the MCN version, so have a read & see if it was indeed the one you're remembering.

Just for info
Ride magazine and mcn are produced by the same people so share many articles.

Yes I do. You have a pm.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

In my opinion there isn't an universal suspension settings. Every set up is dedicated to your weight and style riding. Take something to measure and set sags + compression/rebound.
Do a few rides. Correct it or stay where you are.

I must agree..
I have Sophie set quite a bit softer (more compliant) than that article recommended.
Personally I found the ride harsh when I set the suspension up as they suggested..
The roads around here are not glass smooth (in fact they are pretty crap) and so I need a suspension that actually works..
In my opinion a shock absorber wont errr absorb shocks if the pre load is set to high as it wont compress sufficiently for the damper to actually damp..
On the rears I have both the compression and rebound set to 2..

Its quite a personal choice and as KoZi says you need to decide for yourself with your style of riding.

It is definitely a personal choice. I don't know anyone who likes the way I set my GSX up. I have lifter kit under rear shocks and settings are all on full. Front has heavier fork springs and oil and all settings are maxed. It's firm, but carrying maybe 125kg in full gear it moves quite well chucking it in to the corners and yet cruises along in a fairly pliable mode.  :onya:

Nice to meet you  140 kg in full gear, 1.2 kg/cm springs in 1 cm shorter usd forks. Rear end lifted 2.5 cm, rear preload in hardest position and still too soft. I can't find rear springs weight info to be able to order heavier ones :whatever:

I took the 55 rear tyre off and went back to a 50 when I fitted the jack up kit,
I used MCN's settings but went the firmer of the two at the front, slightly softer on the rear, then spent a few weekends trying small adjustments.

Now the H2 is well run in I'm going to get the suspension set.
This time I'm going to a professional and see what the results are like.

While on the subject, before fitting new tyres mine has a head shake when I take my hands off the bars at 70ish kph.
I thought the new tyres may sort it, but no.

I noticed the bars are on a slight angle (left forward further forward than the right), I'm wondering if I have a bent triple clamps, as the loosening off the clamps and twisting the wheel trick didn't help to align the bars. It tips in oddly on low speed corners too. Curious.

Strange I'd lossen everything with the front end jacked up and the check all is straight before retightening it all back up.
Also whole it's got the front wheel off the ground check the steering head bearings for tight spots and notchiness.
Good luck
