That is a common "Fail" point on GSX1400's and Bandits. I catches a lot of people out.

So being a common fail, is an extra earth wire to motor/frame a good idea? Sounds a very easy fix.

It's a good idea to add an extra motor-frame earth especially if ridden up here in our lovely damp climate.
I used to live 100 feet from the north sea the gsx1400 didn't like that much .
Water based paints and polished(then lacquered) parts soon looked far from top quality.
The wiring where exposed also suffered from corrosion.

I'm going to run a small extra earth from the rear breather tower on the motor to the mudguard mounting bracket.

Back in early 90s, Aussie Ford Falcon, usually charge around 13.8 at battery. We used to add extra earth and bumped battery charge up to over 14, simple but made big difference to them.
