I've been done for speeding 3 times.
Once on the 1400.
Twice in a Holden Combo Van 1400 Fuel Injection.

I take it that you don't have either summons yet, is there anyway you can go to court and plead for mercy when both summons turn up? you have footage that shows the road to be clear of obstacles, you could represent yourself with a defense that had you received the first summons in a timely matter you would have curbed your bad behavior and would not have received the 2nd summons, you could say that you were ignorant of the dangers or road workers, present your camera footage and say something to the effect that at the time you didn't perceive a risk because there was no road works going on/ no workers present and be remorseful for your bad decisions.

Nope not yet received either summons, still yet to send NIP for the second one. That's the thing though I just feel like they won't really care about the conditions, I was speeding end off. Annoyingly I was caught doing 66 mph the first time and then 67 the second time yet if I was doing 65 or less then I'd just be facing 3 points and a fine but because I was doing 1 - 2 mph over 65 mph then it's cause for a ban. Now I'd totally accept a ban if that was during the actual road works or through a street in a town but this is the road I got caught on (from helmet cam footage of that day): https://photos.app.goo.gl/xJYeuoKb1TkfQA9U6

Someone please tell me where the danger is? It wasn't like I was going over the normal speed limit and the only difference from normal is the road signs until another 800 yards odd then it becomes single lane and the road works begin in which I slowed down or in good time like I always do, camera van or not. The really annoying thing is that the van is parked in a closed layby BEFORE the actual road works, so what is to stop anyone from doing 40 past the van and then speed through the road works where it's dangerous?

Roadworks get a lead in and exit area.
Sometimes this can seem longer than required but they are needed and serve a purpose. Dropping the speed at the workers area and the moment they end isn't a good idea.  A good lead in area with a repeated signage helps to slow traffic and gives folk plenty of warning what's ahead. In many cases, workers, trucks turning, bobcats, JCB's etc will be using this area, and the road may have reduced width or changed conditions before the actual construction area.

If two lanes are merging into one the speeds should be dropped well before this point. That's good practice and quite normal.

I would never want traffic slowed where I'm working or road layout changes. Speed should always be lowered well before the work zone or any deviation.

I do object to badly signed roadworks.
After many years on site they annoy the hell out of me.

Completely understand that although would say in this case it's far longer than needed. Plus there's warning signs for a lane closure and that it merges into one lane, it should be common sense that you should slow down. You can see in this shot from the helmet cam https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZJbmnd3NpGKaPFKaA that the signs for the lane closure is 600 yards away. This is also just as you enter onto that section of dual carriageway.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to defend my speeding though am trying to defend why I shouldn't get a ban, 3 points and a fine I can accept, but there are no construction vehicles or workers in the 600 yards up to the lane closure. I've also never seen a camera van on that road during or after the road works even though that during the road works it's far more dangerous to speed and after the road works shouldn't be any more or less dangerous than before it despite the speed limit still being 40 mph for a few hundred yards.

Here (Germany) the police announces when and which roads they control. They control where it makes sense! When they catch you speeding you get stopped, educated, and fined. Very personal interaction with them. All good IMO.

The city/county speed traps are there just for the $$$ IMO. Very impersonal with very little educational value. However we know what we have to expect on fines and points. There are really only 2 choices. Accept or get a lawyer. Plenty people here are successful in fighting it.

I think Tony has said it all as to the regulation of speed in construction zones.

If this goes to court as it will if there is a ban as a possible outcome then you can go and plead a hardship case and they'll normally give you less points to keep you just under the ban number .
You'll need to say why you need to keep your licence and also have a previous good driving record.
Hopefully it won't come to this but it's an option .
Also check that they have all the paperwork correct as though the camera is normally correct and the pictures are clear the police fall down on the back up paperwork .
Including operator training records for all staff involved ,calibration records of all the involved equipment, proper following of procedures for the N.I.P.
And for all of the above that they have been co-oberated properly.
As these are the things they get wring 90% of the time .

A good lawer should be able to get you off a ban but it might cost a few £££ but if it affects your life so much it might just be worth it .
Good luck
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

This is one of the reason I gave up riding in the UK - it's not that I 'speed' all the time its just the frustration of having two sets of eyes looking out for plod trying the gitya!. Even driving is a pain now with all the cameras. They were successfully legal challenged here in BC except for intersections which I totally agree with having been nearly killed on a bike by a red light runner!
:hat: Stan
I need to go somewhere I've not been but won't know until I get there!
