Ok a quick question after a chat with my mate earlier . :stir: :whistling:
Are hipsters the mod's of the biking world as they seam to be much interested in the look than actually riding bikes.
Just as mod's are more about the whole look and music of the scooter scene (tho they might actually ride there scooters a fair old distance too)
Interested to see what others think ?

As long as they are into bikes it's fine by me. We can't expect the young generation to do everything the same as the old farts can we? That's the whole point of being young.

Personally I never really liked the greasy hair and never-washed denim thing anyway. If I was young enough to still have hair and a decent beard I might be inclined to sculpt it and stick a few cosmetic products in there.

At least you don't have to worry about 'helmet hair' fishy.... and anyway combing dead flies out of a beard must be a pain  :rofl2:

I don't think of hipsters being the new mods, they are just another "new" fashion.  Everyone feels the need to belong to something, there were mods and rockers, greebos and skinheads etc.  Some people become policemen, firemen, soldiers, sailors or pongos, it a strong need to belong to something.  Joining a forum can satisfy that need for some, it's just a human need that needs to be filled.  "Nowt as queer as folk" as they say oop north.

A 20-30 something usually with a well groomed beard who rides old school retro style bikes they have made in a shed.

Except that many (most) hipsters WATCH videos of other people making bikes, and then buy an off-the-shelf 'café racer' like a trumpy Thruxton.

Those 'hipsters' that build bikes, usually end up building them more for aesthetics than function.  Check out some of the bikes that end up on pipeburn, and bike exif, etc. Some are utter deathtraps.

Most of the customer bike builders I've met do not fall into the 'hipster' category.

I walked past a barber a while back and saw in the window they were selling three different brands of "beard oil" so I guess somebody is making money from it.

Other activities with which Hipsters are often associated - coffee shops and micro-breweries.
Ottomans: 'Hippity hoppity, Vienna's our property"
...and then the Winged Hussars arrived.

Well...i have a well groomed beard but I don't use beard oil,
I visit micro brewery's because I like beer and Ale's,
I watch bike building video's but I built bikes in my shed....

Does that make me a wannabe hipster?  A "wanster"  :whatever:

Proof of shed built bike:

It is a oldskool beasty with a zx9r USD front end, a gsx1400 engine with POD filters and a 190 b-king rear end.

I try not to departmentalise motorcycles and riders. It is not one section of riders that defines vanity, I have seen all sorts suggesting they wouldn't wear hi-vis because oh how it looks. I've seen people upset because someone wears a "Polite", vest.
I figure if their riding a motorcycle with a modicum of skill, they're fine however they're dressed.
May the sun be warm & shining and your roads be smooth & winding.

Agree Batty. Yesterday i saw a lovely black/red 14. Really nice bike. Rider was decked out in full Harley gear. Even Maltese Crosses on his leather vest. What to think? Just him i guess. I was in car, dressed for golf, he wouldve laughed at me. World goes around.

Mick_J

Golf gear, the only way a white man can dress like a harlem pimp and get away with it  :whistling:
