I'd say These are worse than nothing it takes about 2seconds to get around having this on your bike as a security device.  :frustrated:
Waste of money .
If you need to go minimal then a metal disclock is the least you could do.

Cut the hose.
Crack open a banjo bolt.
Snap the lever.
Remove the pivot pin.
Etc etc.

Bike can still be ridden away or if not, then easily pushed or loaded into a van.

They are cheap and won't do any harm other than making think they have extra security when 99% of bike thieves wouldn't be bothered by it.

He was only suggesting it as a deterrent outside a cafe/pub when you stop, not an overnight security option.
(I still wouldn't bother with one though)

I use a metal disc lock at home and when on trips etc, and always put it on the rear disc. It's a lot harder to lift the rear up and try to wheel it away on the front wheel  ;) but see a lot of people leave bikes overnight with it on the front wheel. Not hard for 2 guys to wheel that away.

Just as a side note
A mate is getting a write off gsx1400 rebuilt and 3 fairly strong blokes couldn't lift it up a flight of steps and round a house so it could get a new frame made.
When we stripped it down to and engine frame and loom it still weighed a bloody ton we managed to get it where it was going but a struggle for the same 3 blokes.

I use metal disc lock on rear wheel. I know it wont stop it getting stolen if they really want it. But at least l can tell the insurance company it had one on. I dont use the steering lock. Guess l should but its a pain.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Disc lock with alarm on rear and front here. Heavy chain in reserve if I ever go out of hearing distance.

How on earth is a disc lock more convenient/easier than using the steering lock?

In any event, 1400's must be much more desirable to steal in Europe  and NZ as compared with here
I only ever use the steering lock. So far so good... :)

Thats cos you lot down under have mainly got the slow Black versions, those with the desireable B&W versions have to take extra precautionary measures  :stir:
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

I've never locked mine anywhere, even overnight when traveling, n the poms thought they exported all the crims down under!

Smaller population & rural towns, not going to be the same anti social behavior as ya get in huge cities, guess that's another plus for us.

Spot on Dave.I own the desirable K6 B&W, hence the steering & disc lock when I'm away
The Black owners even leave the keys in down here  :stir: :happy1:

KiwiCol

That's cos we're so trusting in our fellow citizens  . . .    yeah right!      I don't go that far, as to leave the keys in it!

I once lived in an area that was quite bad for bike theft.
I had family and a Mate in the Police, and friends and a relative in a back patch bike club. I saw both sides of it.

4 big guys with 2 short poles put through the bike can easily pick it up and post it into a van. Even a 14.

Steering locks will annoy a thief but aren't a real deterrent. A few hard boots to the handle bars with a big size 10 boot will normaly break them.

Alarms are nice. But old refrigerated trucks that used to deliver meat and cold goods are just about sound proof once the doors are clamped shut.

A refrigerated truck with a powerful winch will rip you bike up a ramp and into the back in seconds, steering locks, disc locks etc do nothing, a winch that can pull cars would hardly notice dragging a disc locked bike. In a few seconds of pulling up, your bike will be in the back and the doors closed.

There's a way around everything, dogs, CCTV etc etc.  Any bike can be stolen, you just don't need to be an easy target, and don't get complacent because you think your security is better than it is.
