I noticed the other day a Bagster tank protector in the same colours as my bikes tank whilst surfing on yon internet.

Not sure if I love them but can see the advantages of protecting the tank (plus strapping a tank bag).

What are your thoughts on these fitted tank protectors?

The one I saw is below..

Tank bag or damaged tank would be my only reason.

I had one fitted to my K7 nearly all the time as it:
- protected the tank from stone chips etc
- protected the paint work from wearing (suzuki paint is thin after all), esp around areas where knees rubbed
- made fitting a Bagster tank bag dead easy

Downside was that for sure it didn't make the tank/bike look as good, but given I rode on a lot of main roads before getting to back roads, the possibility of stone chips was high, and I wanted to keep the tank looking nice

Fit is very good, nice and tight, also the inside of the cover is lined so it doesn't damage your paintwork.

It's a bit like marmite (vegemite) you either love them or hate them on all the time. For me I preferred it, as if I wanted to carry anything I could quickly attach my Bagster tank bag rather than have a top box or similar.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

I have them on both my gax1400's
As Dave says love them or hate them but they protect what's underneath I remove mine in the winter and give the tanks a good clean and polish then wash the covers clean and dry then refit .

I understand the protection bit but whats the point in covering up a superb looking tank? only the next owner will get to see it naked !!  :)
The older I get the better I was
The problem with retirement is that you cant take a day off

Mine was damaged by stone chips on the front edge as it's very vulnerable area so after spending £500 on getting it repainted I want to keep it good for many years to come.

I agree Geoff, but the standard paintwork and lacquer is very thin, so easily marked by stone chips. So it keeps it looking superb for when I wanted to take the cover off on odd occasions.

Now you've had your tank re-sprayed, you probably have a lot more resilient paint than the standard wafer thin covering that Mr Suzuki provided originally - although for you I would recommend some clear protection film on the front leading edges of the tank even so, as that is an area very prone to stones. Ventureshield film is absolutely first class for this

We have the clear stuff on Emma's bike it does work well .
I'll keep the covers on the other bikes tho.

Hooli

I had a bagster on my Pan, very handy as already said for attaching bags (or in my case a map pouch).

VladTepes

I bought a naked bike, I want a naked look :)
So it's a NO from me.

Perfect, though, to hide a damaged tank.

The tank is what makes the bike shine to me, so no bag for me. I want the bike looking its best for my enjoyment. If i ever go to sell it and the buyer doesn't like a few stone chips, then he can go and buy a bag if it worries him that much  ;)

@Hooli  You had a Pan?  Care to share your experiences with it? Good?  Bad?  Why you've not got 1 now?   I'm interested because I've always like them, but never had one.
