Sorry to double post. Had pirelli car tyres, just were really bad. One flew to pices at 40ks, not 40thou. Paid top dollar because i liked them on bike. They wouldnt replace, bad fitting they said. I fitted them as have done for hundreds of tyres. Next time for car, Hifly, chinese and full set about cost of one pirelli. Are superb tyres, great grip wet or dry, 25 th ks and still look new. Michelin off shoot ive read, not really sure.

I'm putting a new PR4 GT on the back of mine soon. I'm not changing both when there is 6-7k left on the the front.

Just got back from getting a new PR4 GT on the back. I think I'll be putting Angels on next time though.

Now do I stick with the 180/55 on the rear that handles better on PR4s or go back to the normal size on Angels?

You made a big mistake the PR4 GT is obviously tipping in to much for the front tyre, you should research more before rushing in on these things.  :stir:

Hooli, keen to know why you run a 180/55 GT. I know the GT has a stiffer sidewall.  But l ask if its really needed.
Since getting the 14 in 2014 i've used 3 sets of PR4's and l'm about halfway through a set of Road 5's, all 190/50. Cannot say l have any complaints about the way it handles. That being on my own two up or even two up and loaded.
Have never tried Pirelli but only for the reason that l have no complaints about what im using and not because l have anything against Pirelli.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

The first 180/55 I ran wasn't a GT & wore out in about 3k, so I think the stronger carcass also stops the rubber getting as hot by preventing it flexing too much.

The reason I prefer the 180 is with a 190 my bike runs wide on the power & wears 'flat spots' on my front tyre so it looks like a thrupeny bit from above. That's completely stopped with the 180 & it just follows it's line properly. This might be due to running XJR Ohlins on the rear which are slightly shorter than GSX shocks, but they were on the bike when I got it & i'm so used to them now I'll not change them unless they fail.

Ok so our bikes are similar but not quite the same because of our rear shocks. If your shocks are shorter that must have an effect on the steering head geometry and make the bike ride differently.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

That's my thinking aye, it'll make it slower to turn and more stable. So a 'pointier' tyre counteracts that.

I think there is 8mm difference in profile so what is the difference in shock length. That would be total difference in diameter of tyre so there will be 4mm higher on arse end.

seth

The tread depth on my angel gt's when new the bike is fine
When they are near the end of there life and low on tread you can feel a big difference in the handling.

Shocks are 20mm shorter I think, but that's uncompressed. They are a bit softer than the originals so might sit lower when fitted. I never bothered to measure when parked near a normal 14. Which was silly of me as I once fitted another pair of the same shocks to an ex's 14 so should have done it then.
